Hi all, I need to buy a general use Laptop for me and my daughter to do the usual stuff, nothing too intense (maybe some light minecraft (for her) ).
Would I be better off with an old 2006 refurbished mac book (MacBook 13" White 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/2GB/80GB/SuperDrive)
OR the new HP Stream (•Windows•Intel® Celeron® Processor N2840•Memory: 2 GB•Hard drive: 32 GB eMMC)
The Mac is on Wowcher for £188 inc del and the stream is £199....any advice would be appreciated. TIA

Neither of those are good enough for Minecraft; the Macbook is ancient, overpriced and slow. I wouldn't even give £5 for the macbook.
The stream will be not suitable for your needs, it's too slow, small 2GB RAM that cannot be upgraded and the 32GB storage will be too small which cannot be upgraded either.
You need a minimum of i3 processor, 4gb ram and 500gb HDD.
You can get a modern refurb i3 machine on Argos outlet or the Tesco outlet for a decent price (£220-£230) and comes with a 12 months warranty:

£250 is really the most i wanted to go to. She is only 11 so spending more on a lappy at this stage seems silly. I know Im not going to get an all singing system for this kind of money. And the Minecraft thing, is really just a small part of why she wants a PC but she would deffo want to play it, not worried about shaders, mods or anything like that, just light play on her brothers server is all....and surfing, streaming vids and schoolwork obvs0

Look at the systems I mentioned and with your budget at £250 max this allows for a memory upgrade of an extra 4gb later, cost about £15-20, this is a worthwhile upgrade as dual channel memory improves game frame rates on integrated graphics by about 20-25%. It's very easy to install.

Your will have an i3-4xxx processor system that has 8gb of memory for <£250.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

The i3s I quoted are faster, uses less power has USB 3.0, 12mths warranty as opposed to 3, lighter and far superior graphics.
The i5-540m is a 5 year old processor.
Incidently the advert says 1333mhz RAM but the CPU only supports a rate of 1066mhz RAM

Good enough, similar spec to others. Still add that other 4GB RAM though at a later stage.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
