Yes, may be a 'record' fine, but it's still a pretty pitiful and ineffectual measure.

Glad they got fined but often its not a deterrent especially the misery these parasites have on. I like to see fines imposed and compensation paid to each complainant that way it may encourage others to complain to ICO. Each complaint such get say £10 for each call made to them.

I also think it such be illegal to use robocalls

I block calls on my landline and don't answer unknown numbers on mobile only yesterday got a call on my mobile from a parasite I never give this number out often and certainly not to any company.

Interesting a ICO response

The ICO was given new powers earlier this year to crack down on nuisance calls, but information commissioner Christopher Graham is now pressing the government to go further. He wants ministers to bring in tougher punishments for individuals who sell lists of phone numbers to cold-calling companies and in doing so breach data protection laws. At the moment the strongest punishment for unlawful disclosure of personal data is a fine from a magistrates’ court

Sadly I think you'll be right.

What I find amazing is that they always claim that it's a different company who is making the phone calls and/or have "checked" the phone numbers against the TPS register.

Get fine paid, then shut them down?

Jobs may be lost, but I am sure the staff know what they were getting into..?
