O/S Daily Wednesday 30th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, looks to be dry underfoot, but was a cold night, so hoping for a dry day – as I want to continue with the washing and getting it line dried.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was rather disjointed as hairdresser was here when DH rang and said he was on his way home a bit early as he has a stupid stupid early start this morning, and so could he eat early too! So hairdresser finished my hair, then I organised him a dinner that I got cooking whilst he had his haircut, I then got mine and the boys cooking (the meal that we were all going to have, just cooked less) then served his so he could eat his a reasonable time before getting his head down, and myself and the boys then ate a little while later – I cooked a rice and meat dish (ready made and frozen) that was on offer, it was ok but boys weren’t over keen, but it was something that I’d never seen before and tried for something different, won’t buy it again if I see it on sale though. I did do a pan of mushroom chow mein as well and that was ok. I did remember to get the chicken out of the freezer to defrost – so tonight we’ll be having chicken, mushroom and bacon pie, mash, veg and gravy.

Work yesterday wasn’t too bad, but busy at times and also very quiet at times. Working at the normal office today but only until lunchtime then on days’ off, think it’ll be steady due to being the 1st October on Thursday, I’m working this Saturday morning also, then we’re out all day Sunday so need to get all the jobs at home up to date so it makes going in to next week easier. If I get chance I want to do some cooking on Friday at some point then I have a bit of head start for the weekend and next week. I will do a menu plan for next week either tomorrow or Friday morning before doing the food shopping, I’ve decided this week I’ll possibly shop at MrA’eees, and see price wise how it compares. Used MrL last week and was much cheaper but couldn’t get everything I wanted so then had to visit another store which then bumps the price up. Thinking I’m going to do 3 weeks a month at either MrL or MrA’eees and 1 shop at MrM – as there are some things that I only like from there, so just need to adjust the shops to suit, hoping to keep the shopping bill as low as possible.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting us off.

It is still quite dark here so can't see weather wise, but I think it is going to be fine. It is lovely to be able to dry the washing outside still so once Himself is up the WM will go on.

We went to Lidl yesterday because I had a £5 voucher off £40 shop so managed to stock up, but as you say nmic I have to go elsewhere for the items they don't have, even so I still save money.

I am going to wipe all the outside window sills down today, we live on a busy road and you wouldn't believe the muck coming off vehicles going by, I usually have to do it once a week.

I am pleased with the garden, it is beginning to look bare but tidy, just in case bad weather arrives before I have time to put it to bed.

    Have a good day

    Morning :hello:

We remembered yesterday about the extractor fan, so rang our mate. He apologised and said he had no excuse, he'd just completely forgotten. Well that's OK because so did we :D He'd done all the wiring but we'd bought one without a timer  so he was going to pop back when the new one arrived. It arrived and we shoved it on a high shelf and left it there, lol.

I couldn't decide what to use for shelving in the shower – it was between a little rack that hangs over the top of the cubicle or an extending pole with shelves that goes in the corner. Back to the drawing board because I can't use either of them :D The sliding door will knock the first one off, the second won't fit because the ceiling curves down to the wall. I'll do an internet search today to find ideas.

There's a tiny leak in the shower, it's near the front so not too bad. I'm going to stick a blob of blu tack in there for now :D It'll have to be siliconed later.

I didn't get all the clearing up done yesterday, I ended up fixing someone's laptop. I should add this to my little biz stuff and start charging :D It was quite funny, the wife was bringing the laptop round, the husband waited til she'd left their house then rang me before she arrived here. There were lots of ummmms and errrrrs before he asked me to change the google settings so that when something is typed in, previous searches aren't suggested. There's stuff he doesn't want her to see. I was tempted to tell him that I will not be complicit in his seedy searches, lol, but I just said 'yeah OK' :D

I didn't have time do most of the things I'd planned for yesterday. Except have a shower – two actually – it was wonderful! Today the phone will be ignored and the front door locked. I've seen far too many people over the last few days for my liking, lol. I need to get on with things properly and for that I need to be on my own. I'm not going to rush to get order back in the house, but I want to be able to potter about without keeping an eye on the time or listening for the doorbell. A slow, quiet kind of busy :D

    Morning everyone.

It's still dark'ish outside but the moon is huge and bright.

After my busy day yesterday I will be more relaxed today. I slept really well under the new duvet, all cosy and no gaps. Whilst I like the wool one there's no drape to it.

I've got my two hour teaching session tonight which I need to plan. Second last evening session before switching to an afternoon one in a different village. If the ground is dry I may do a final mow of the lawn as the grass is still growing.

I also need to call the car dealer, can't wait for him to call me!

Porridge for breakfast and there's soup for later. Meanwhile I may have a little snooze.

I hope everyone has a good last day in September.
  • Morning one and all. Another wretched night for me but it seems it's now the norm unfortunately. Early morning fog to lift here once again and then another good day in store for us. Long may it continue!

It's our wedding anniversary today - 43 years. In another life we always went away somewhere nice to "celebrate" and even in the last two years, when we were grounded through Mr TA's illness, we got away in the UK. Today, sadly, will be just another day and we can't even go out for a nice meal as he wouldn't be able to eat it. So just some nice and tasty little snacks and treats in store for him today.

I got my hair cut yesterday at last and feel more presentable! And for once she actually did it how I wanted it! Got our TwoTogether passes as well, so organised for Friday. Had a nice meet up with my friend and some non-stop chattering over a couple of coffees and cake each. We managed to get the comfy sofas in our favourite coffee shop and were there the biggest part of the afternoon!! She'd brought me some flowers to cheer us both up which was thoughtful of her.

I might follow your lead this morning CANDLELIGHT and get rid of the bedding plants in the front garden and dig it over. I hate gardening when it's cold so they'd end up dead and bedraggled all winter if the weather suddenly turned!

I'm so pleased the wedding went off well SNOOZER and you were so lucky with the weather! LAMEWOLF nice to see you back with us but sorry you are suffering badly with your lupus.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))) if wanted/needed. Take care xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a little bit chilly here this morning but I am sure it's going to brighten up. I got up with my hubby this morning very early so I will be heading back to bed once the girls have gone to school.

I have loads and loads of washing to do as the girls have turfed out all of the towels that were lurking in their rooms. At least I can get them washed and dry before the end of the day.

The grandchildren want to come for tea so I am going to cook chicken goujons and chips with peas or beans. It will be lovely to see them as they have only popped in for a few minutes this week.

My best friend's daughter and baby are coming to see me tomorrow so I will be tidying up ready for their visit. I do love having a cuddle with a baby. I will make a cake as well but I am not sure what yet. DD12 is making cherry bakewells in school today so hopefully they will be edible.

Well, that's all from me for now, hope you have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning All

Foggy this morning but hopefully it will clear for another bright day, it got to 20 degrees yesterday so the washing was dry as a bone.

I had a card to post to Oz and was going to call at the post office on my way home but decided to come home and go out on my bike to a post office further away, had a lovely cycle in the glorious weather. Felt quite pleased with myself!

Then had to have a dash to the tile shop before it closed at 6, the traffic was awful but I made it. The builder and myself are not happy with the tiles as they do not clean properly after they have been grouted and look very patchy. We've used all the products the tile shop have recommended but they still don't look good. Their customer service dept have opened a case so someone should come and look at them soon. Hope they can sort something, they were quite expensive and are stopping me getting on with painting in there.

Snoozer, the wedding sounds fab, well done on all your hard work, time for a bit of a rest now!
LW - Hope the Lupus settles down soon, enjoy your furry friends.

Enjoy Wednesday (even though I feel it's Tuesday as we had the day off on Monday!). Take care. XX
  • TA A very Happy Anniversary to you both. You may not be able to go away but you are together, that is the main thing.

Love and hugs to you both on this special day

    Morning all,

An early start for me as youngest nearly broke his neck flying down the stairs this morning as he was late getting up. Talking about youngest, his job finishes Friday and it looks like he will be working away with his Dad. It's the first time he's worked away but its good that his Dad can show him the ropes.

I'm sitting here with dead skin falling off my face. I did a glycolic peel on Sunday. I am hoping I look a bit more presentable by the weekend.

A day in the house today...good job really as I look like a snake shedding it's skin.

Could do with getting hubby some aspirin but it will have to wait.

Happy wedding anniversary Mr and Mrs TA.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

    Hi everyone,

LW, I hope you feel better soon.

I had to go to bed yesterday afternoon, I was so tired! I also cleared the booze out of the dining room (aka my sewing room). We have 48 bottles of wine left, 12 prosecco, 4 tequila and lots of whisky, plus some beer, cider and gin. Because DD works in the industry there was a definite theme. We had made several cocktails up into litre bottles and some friends of hers made a punch, we also hired a slushy machine and served frozen margaritas at lunch and vodka slushies at night. Plus there was a whisky bar with about 30 different whiskies to try. I was a bit afraid that so much free booze would lead to problems, but there was no bad behaviour or sickness at all, just people having a good time. I don't drink so I know everything was ok. The only untoward thing that happened was a couple of expensive whisky bottles disappearing. One of them was a wedding preset to DD but thankfully that turnied up next day hidden behind a rock in the garden.

I have to meet my new son-in-laws father at Peterborough today. He stayed on and is bringing back a lantern that we left by mistake. Apart from that I want to finish clearing the sewing room and do a little light sewing.

    Have a good day.
