Vendors yet to send the contract pack to my solicitors

Hello there,
I'm hoping you may be able. We are under offer on the home we're selling and have done everything we can to be as efficient and amenable as possible. The people we're buying from however are yet to send the contract pack to our solicitors, despite them accepting our offer at the beginning of the month. We've had our valuation survey done and are due to have our homebuyers report done shortly, but I'm reluctant to when they haven't even returned the most basic paperwork. Meanwhile, the agent selling for them has told us it's a 'catch 22 - they will send the report when he has confirmation of our mortgage offer - which is imminent as we've submitted everything and as it's with Virgin, our solicitors had to register and do some additional paperwork as per Virgin's guidelines.

Any advice? Should they have done the contract pack by now?

Many thanks, Kate

Yes they should. If the EA is telling the truth the vendor is being stupid and you should issue a deadline for the paperwork to be returned. Don't spend any more money until it is - it's likely they're delaying paying their solicitor, which is why no paperwork had been done. Alternatively it could be they don't really want to sell, or are hoping for a better offer, or going through a divorce so getting paperwork sorted is difficult etc - whatever's going on you need to find out.

Put a rocket up the EA.

You've no mortgage offer. Neither your solicitor nor their's is going to waste expensive time.
