Personal webpage

Please move this if its sited wrong

I am about to branch out my self employment to include counselling as I have just qualified. I feel a web page would help and would like a personal one rather than an extension of my freeserve address. Who would you suggest?

My mum's counselling website is hosted with http://www.fasthosts.co.uk
and her domain names were registered with fasthost's sister company http://www.ukreg.com

I registered my domian with http://123-reg.co.uk and webspace with http://cirtexhosting.com both are very good.

I would keep the domain and the hosting seperate just for flexability though, if you were to get hosting problems you can easily point you domain to somewhere else.

Ok. This is looking a little complicated. i thought all I had to do was buy my name and them fill in the blanks. You know? Like my free one I got with my ISP? Unfortunately it is the longest name in the world or i would use it. Are these sites as simple as it gets?

Quite a few companies do all in one domain + space and probably do the setting up to.

If you buy seperatly you normally just need to set the domain name servers to whatever the host tells you. It's fairly painless and you don't have to worry about what it all means. :)

I use surpass hosting for two of 3 of my websites. 2 are on one lot of hosting and are my own personal sites, and the other is on a different account with surpass and is a shared fansite with 2 other people.

We pay £30 a year and we get 200gb of space and 2000gb of bandwith. Whilst I understand that this may be far too much for what you want, it is much cheaper than what you may pay for 100's of gb's less elsewhere. (The shared fansite was previously on something that we got 10gb of space and paid £120 a year with heart internet!).

There is a £25 a year offer too that has 50gb of space and 2000gb of bandwith but really it's worth going half with someone else (if you have any children who want sites..?) and getting the extra IMO. You can always have your own personal site as well as your company one, or host things on there up in cyber space...?

I also bought my domains from http://order.1and1.co.uk as I got an extra year for free on my .co.uk one making it about £3.50 in total for 2 years. However - as soon as they were sorted, I transfered them out of there sharpish (as the customer service is atrocious) and over to 123-reg which is much easier to use :)
