Getting Royal Mail to accept we live at our postcode - what to do next ?

Options
I've read about this on other threads - but how do I solve it ? When I look up our postcode on Royal Mail, we are not there. Online companies also use the RM database and I always have to manually input our address. Having read other threads I contacted RM online through their 'contact' link to ask how this can be rectified. They responded with the following :

Thank you for your enquiry.
Unfortunately we have no trace on Postal Address File for information
received.
To assist in our search please confirm registration with the Council’s
street naming and numbering department.
They can then advise Royal Mail of your address format.
Please reply to pcodes@royalmail.com
Kind regards

I don't know what they want ?? I have to confirm what with the Council's department ? I didn't know such a dept exists - is that their proper name when I ring the Council up ? Plus we don't have a street or number as we're in the sticks - there's a house name, farm name and area. Can anyone tell me what I need to get from the Council and then do I need to supply this 'something' to Royal Mail ? Just totally confused about what I need to do next.

Edit : Obviously pay Council tax so the Council have our address on their records.

We had this problem when we first moved into a new build house.
If you contact whichever department at your council which deals with planning, they'll be able to help :)

We're not a new build if that makes any difference. We're a farm outbuilding conversion that probably happened in the '70's. Will talk to the Council tomorrow and see what they say.
