Garmin owners - some advice please

Just resurrecting this one - the dash connection was no problem with the female connector.
Any ideas when the new maps will be released?0 -
New Garmin maps have become available today.
Garmin Express say the download time is one hour and 3 minutes.
Thanks for remembering!
Will be interesting to see how up to date they are.
After a few months use I would have to say that the traffic info on the Garmin isn't quite as good as tomtom or google maps.0 -
No problem - no way would I forget as I've been waiting for them for a while - this update was overdue.
The Autumn update is usually early October - not the end.
I installed them on mine last night - took nearly an hour and a half - my internet connection is slow.
It's too early to comment on how up to date the maps are - but the number of POIs is greatly increased, and coverage of several Eastern European countries is improved with more street names, rather than just the main through routes.
Google maps is not very good at street names in the Balkans and this Garmin update puts them ahead of google for the first time.0 -
I asked a former student of mine who is now a Halfords manager about this.
And being a manager somehow makes him an authority on technical matters?
In my entire career I have never encountered a single manager that knew what they were talking about. I've come across many that picked up technical phrases or big words and used them repeatedly to give an illusion of knowledge, but never one that actually had a clue. Given that qualification for management seems to be a degree in media studies or sociology, I tend to take them as a joke.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I would agree - mostly they are just one stage on from the 'spotty yoofs' who are only good for stacking the shelves - but this manager I can trust as much as I can trust anyone.
Besides he had a customer service line to Garmin that he phoned in front of me to double check.0 -
Speaking as someone with a technical background, I hated the short times I spent working in any kind of managerial role. They're just very different things to be good at IMO - I spent most of my time thinking I could have done the job by the time I'd delegated it to someone else and then made sure it was done properly. Probably wouldn't have worked if I was managing 50-odd people though.0

Getting back to the Garmin...
The reconfigured Jn10 on the M1 opened in July and in reality has been in place about 6 months. The new Garmin maps don't recognise it yet - still has a roundabout where none exists, which is pretty disappointing - it was major works from the end of 2013.0 -
If the latest maps don't have the correct road layout you could always head over to the HERE maps website, edit the map to correct it, and then the next update for the Garmin maps should have the correct road layout in question. Garmin use HERE maps.Getting back to the Garmin...

Useful to know thanks - but the Here.com map shows the junction perfectly OK.0
