Windows 10 Apps have gone!

I installed windows 10 some time just after it was released, however, having used the calculator app a number of times I have now noticed it has stopped working and the icon for it is blank. I have also noticed that all the other apps such as calendar and email have disappeared as well.

I have tried a system restore but they are still missing.

I was going to do a "repair" but basically I will need to re install all my existing programmes.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this and got a fix please

Check if the previous applications on windows 7 are installed and visible under Programs and Functions in windows 10. If so then I am guessing its a short-cut issue, which did not copy properly during the upgrade.

Have a look at this directory:
    (C:\Windows.old\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs)
Check if your old programs are located in the directory I mentioned above?
If so then you can copy your old directory to this:
    (C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs)
I have had this problem before apparently only the <username> to <username> programs were copied during the installation, but the missing ones could be found in "All Users" so make sure its the correct username.

The old app is no more. You have to install the new calculator from the Store.

  • Really?
Works just fine here on Win10Pro - and I didn't have to download it.

OP, this is not a problem I have experienced BUT if you look here it might help :

It happened to me too. Calculator, Edge, even the App Store itself.

Apparently, simply altering the time on the clock can fix it. It didn't for me, nor did anything else so I ended up resetting Windows.

I saw many of the "tiles" disappear in the Windows 10 start menu, including some URLs that had been pinned to the start menu from Edge. Couldn't re-pin the same URLs, it looked like it had but the shortcut never appeared. Could pin a different page though. The mail App started going to the Store instead as well. There was nothing in the user start menu directory and I was looking at a reset, when they all came back. Did read that the tiles are held in a database somewhere, so maybe that had got corrupted and something I did straightened it out.
Haven't been able to recreate the problem so am none the wiser really...

  • Couldn't resolve this issue at all and ended up having to "repair" windows which was a pain in the !!! as the repair was basically a new installation. Everything sorted now though.

    "Windows 10 Apps have gone!"

Surely this is a feature not a bug?

So what is this article saying? The old "Classic Calculator" is no more and has been replaced. When I upgraded I didn't have either of the Calculators and had to install it.
