even straight after that was slow, IE crashes and now even Firefox, it's sometimes such an effort even just to scoll down the page. What is wrong, can anyone help please?
Also laptop crashed the other day.

How old is the laptop? Could be hard drive issue if it's a mechanical one."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

As your model is a dual GPU (graphics processing unit) which can be temperamental make sure you have these three things:
1) the latest intel GPU driver
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24345/Intel-Driver-Update-Utility
Install and run the Intel driver update utility, also install any other updates it offers you.
2 ) the latest Nvidia GPU driver

3 ) The latest BIOS for your machine:

If your computer is experiencing problems like applications freezing or serious slowdowns, you can use computer diagnostic software to troubleshoot the problem! Download and Run Diagnostic Tools Like Soluto to Identify Problems. It is a free Windows tool that shows you which applications may be slowing your system down.
You also might want to consider running a quick PC health check to identify if your Hard disk is failing! there's a free online tool called OverDrive from PC PitStop you can use that will analyze your computer's hardware, software, security, and so on, and give you recommended fixes, if any.
Another free utility CrystalDiskInfo keeps tabs on your hard drive health, including temperature and S.M.A.R.T. disk reporting.0 -
