peeling paint please help

Options
Hi all I'm hoping someone can help, been reading this thread alot recently as I'm new to decorating.
Anyway commenced on bedroom last week stripped old wallpaper in room realised when it was off why old owners had wallpapered, walls abit of a mess! cracked on washing walls down with sugar soap then applied a watered down coat of white matt emulsion noticed that in some areas the paint would peel back off again and walls felt sticky. so washed them down again. Applied white emulsion, paint took filled cracks and holes, sanded them down. Now today started to apply the crown emulsion paint, 1st wall fine now on 2nd wall and all around the top the paint is peeling off again as i'm applying with roller .Have scrapped it of with a scraper but don't know what to do with this wall, it will be the wall you look at from the bed (inside wall with rad at the bottom). I'm now thinking wallpaper that wall as a feature wall and paint others. My query is what is going on? and how will I go about it to now wallpaper this wall.
Many thanks, any advice gratefully received hope the experts will be along shortly :o

Its a puzzle, specially when you watered down the first coat.

Out of curiousity, when you rolled your paint, did it peel off more where you have filled ?

Here is a link to another thread, similar to your problem, and I advised the Op to use oilbase undercoat on the offending wall before he started painting it again.

There is the info on here telling you what to do, and the Op came back at a later date date and said it worked and the paintwork was perfect.
Might be an idea to read this thread first, before you crack up lol

Or you could just line the one wall, but you would still have to do your rubbing down etc.

If you need any help/advice, give me a shout.:D

Hi Misgrace was hoping you would be along soon ;) , No the filling was on the bottom half of walls, this is the top section from door frame height and above.
I remember that thread about the bubbling, this isn't bubbling just as I'm rolling on it is coming away in strips. tried to paint over the scrapped areas and it just looks a mess.
Thinking now wallpaper that wall and paint the others where the previous paint has gone on fine. How would I go about wallpapering this wall as abit concerned that the wallpaper won't take either. Do I need to line it first or not.
    Many thanks.

hi Jack, it sounds like the previous paint is at fault, but you have done everything right, you washed down with sugar soap, sanded etc, and applied a miscoat.

The coming off in strips is a sort of give away that its not adhering to the previous paint on the wall, I was thinking it was a cheapo tin of paint you might have used as a basecoat, but even so, I dont think that would be the cause.

Is the existing paint silk by any chance?

Like I said, you can either undercoat the one wall, and follow the info on the link, and I am 99.9% this will work, but you would have to sand down where the strips have come off and sort of fill where there would be an indent between the new and old paint.

Or get some 1400 lining paper, but still give wall a good rub down, line the wall, then emulsion.

if you have your heart set on actual finish paper for that wall, then again give the wall a good sand down, do any filling etc, and size the wall the night before you actual paper, or for that matter if your going to line it.

Knock up a watery soloution of paste, and slap that on the wall, then line or paper as normal the next day.

But IMO, I would try the oilbase undercoat way first, as I have done this loads of times and it has never failed me.
But its you thats doing it, and you must do what you think is better for you.:D

Typical wallpaper will be £50 to do that wall plus all the time etc was hoping to get painting done by friday so he could lay flooring at wkend and we could get our bedroom back sick of sleeping on the sofa.
