Endsleigh car insurance

Hi i've had nothing but problems with Endsleigh!

i took out my policy in august 05 and had a bad car crash in november 05 they told me i had to carry on making the payments because i hadn't had the policy long so i did i then got a new car in february 06 and i let them know and started paying the insurance accordingly.

I had was then told that i had to carry on being insured by them in august 06 due to my claim being outstanding which i thought was a bit unfair i could of got it cheaper elsewhere and i was only 19 at the time.

Since then in july when my car tax was due i realised that they hadn't sent me my insurance certificate or details i called them up asked for a cover note which i waited 4 working days for until i called again asking where it was to be told that i hadn't requested one! and do i want to renew with them in august as to which i said no, and asked for another cover note to be sent.

It didnt turn up so i called again 3 days later to ask where it was to be told that they only send it by second class post that takes about 5 working days, my car tax had ran out the week before! 2 days later it still hadn't turned up so back on the phone a young man said he will send me a written cover note in first class post so i can tax my car and the delay was due to the flooding in cheltenham. I eventually got my printed cover note 2 days later and no hand written cover note like the last bloke told me he would send.

So i thought fair enough i then went ahead and bought my new car insurance online with quinn direct got the policy through and needed proof of my no claims so i rang endsleigh again and asked for proof of my no claims to be to told that i have renewed with them! i told them that i have took my insurance out with someone else and i want to cancel the policy, as to which the young lady said ok i will do that now for you cancel the payments from your bank (i rang the bank the same day)

Over a week later im still waiting for my proof of no claims so i rang to see where it was, the manager told me i haven't cancelled my insurance policy so i wont be needing proof of no claims i told him that i rang up last week and cancelled with a young lady who answered the phone as you can imagine im pretty annoyed with the way i've been treated and he said i will cancel it from my end and send you the no claims proof.

Now my post man has turned up and handed me a letter from endsleigh asking why i cancelled my direct debit and that they will take leagal action if i dont set up a new direct debit for them.

This is unbelieveable! How hard is it to cancel a insurance policy and send out a piece of paper!!!

So should i make a complaint about them or not because ive had enough of them.

any help would be great

You absolutely should complain. Sounds like a litany of errors.

"I had was then told that i had to carry on being insured by them in august 06 due to my claim being outstanding"

This is totally untrue. If the incident occured before the renewal date then they are obliged to deal with your claim regardless of whether you choose to be continue cover with them at renewal.

The mayhem with the cover notes is ridiculous - mistakes do happen, but it should really have been resolved on the second call at the worst.

Write a letter explaining what happened, preferably with dates and the names of the advisers you spoke to.

If you photocopy proof that the car has been insured elsewhere (i.e. with your new insurer) since renewal, they should use common sense and backdate the cancellation for you.

Agree with everything you say however if Endsleigh cancel the policy Stephb should ensure that they do not deduct any "administration fee" for their troubles.
Especially if you informed them you did not want to renew.
If however, you forgot to tell them you didn't want to renew then you may be hard pressed to get them to waive the admin fee if there is one - most companies will say "we'll continue your cover unless you tell us otherwise" so the onus is on the policy holder to act - either by doing nothing and approving the renewal or by informing them of your intention to cancel.

Either way cancelling the policy is easy but remember the above when tell them.

I told them i wasn't renewing when i asked for a cover note but i dont think they listen to be honest, even if they was the last insurance company on the planet i would rather drive with no insurance.

I wouldnt mind so much but since the crash i've not been able to work its made me partially deaf in one ear and tinnitus in both ears so i have no income. I was a trained audio typist but im unable to do it now im still waiting to be paid out now but im sure it will be worth the wait :)
