Where was the account registered, they would have sent default notices to that address.
  • If you took the contract out for your ex then they presumably would have sent all correspondence to them.

  • Thanks for the reply David that's what I'm thinking they must have got sent to her address how do I stand fighting the default basically as I personally never spoke to them regarding the debt or received any letters have I got a leg to stand on? Cheers
  • I don't fancy your chances I'm afraid.

Unfortunately you've taken a big risk by taking a contract out for someone else.

I'd notch it up to a lesson learned.

    Hi Chris

You could add a ‘notice of correction’ to your credit files. It’s a statement to explain something which gives a misleading impression and can be taken into consideration if you apply for credit. It might help with this default.

  • Just my 2 cents, but I completely disagree about the Notice of Correction.

All this is going to do is shine a massive light on the fact you have something bad on your credit file.

When you put a Notice of Correction on your report it guarantees that every single thing you apply for (overdraft, credit card, mortgage etc) will refer to an underwriter who will then scrutinize everything on your file.

I can't see any underwriter taking a positive view having read a story about how they took out a phone contract for someone else.
