Eon rip off!

I use every year 5363kWh of electricity. Eon are charging me £134 per month. They claim that figure is correct. I also have solar panels on my roof. Please oh please help me out of this!!
(I have no gas supply)

If you are in a all electric property - heating, water heating, cooking - then your consumption sounds low. Is this based on the actual meter readings you are giving Eon every month ?

What tariff are you on ?

Ask E.oN to give you the Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC) for your property. This is the historical usage data which is passed to the supplier when you switch. If this is higher than your current usage, and you have only had PV solar installed recently, then this might account for the difference. That said, your usage equates to a DD of about £70 per month so clearly something is out-of-kilter. As others have said, take an actual reading and get an updated bill from E.oN. Do your own sums to see whether you are being billed correctly: i.e., right tariff, right kWh rate etc. E.oN's method of calculating DD amounts is something of a magical mystery tour which is why I switched away from them earlier this year.

There is no 'rip off': you will only pay for the energy that you use.

    Good morning denis06,

I think the first thing to do is to make sure the account is up to date with accurate meter reads and also make sure you're on the best deal for you.

You can check the tariffs out on the website, then pop your usage in to a comparison site also.

Electric heating can be expensive, what sort of heating is it, storage heaters etc? Also do you have the hot water on an immersion switch? As this can also be expensive also.

It's also a good idea to look at ways to save energy, if all the figures are correct, again there's loads of info on the website about this.

Usage will also depend on the size of the house, insulation, windows etc so do look to see if there are any changes you can make.

If you need any help though, please let me know.

    Helena :)

Helena - with respect, your reply is not very helpful. The OP has given what he believes is his annual usage. It is completely irrelevant how the energy is being consumed. If I feed the OP's consumption into my present electricity tariff, the total cost is £685 per year. The question that needs to be addressed is whether or not the OP is using more energy than he believes he is, or whether E.oN's estimated usage calculations are wrong? A simple way to check this is to take an actual meter reading and compare usage against the EAC for the property and the annual estimates on the bill.

  • Sounds like you re on economy 7 .Just make sure that Eon have`nt got the day and night reads transposed and that you find out exactly when the cheap 7 hours is operating. With the old analogue 24hr timerswitches the cheap 7 hrs could be anywhere in the 24 hrs, so your cheap 7 hrs could actually be starting at, say, 4 am in the afternoon.

    Hi Hengus,

I was just trying to get a better picture of the usage really.

I don't know if the account is in credit or debit, so I wouldn't be able to say specifically, however, my offer to help the OP still stands of course, if they'd like :)

    Thanks

OP needs to clarify how the property is heated and hot watered if no mains gas. As above, that consumption is very low if no electric heating or hot water.
Also, are your 'solar panels' solar PV or solar hot water?
More info needed if meaningful advice is to be given.
