O2 default of £84 from 2012 still causing issues

HI,

I had a contract with O2 for 11 years and spent about £10k with them. I closed my account and am adamant I never received a final bill for £80. This led to non payment and a default notice on my account being placed in 2012. After all, non payment is non payment. Understandable, but, in 2015 I am still suffering from only a "fair" credit rating and it's having a serious impact for only £80.

I have pleaded with them to remove it but they have just said no. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Other points:
-Yes, I realise a default is a default. No hiding that even if I didn't know about the bill
-They say they only ever sent me electronic bills but I have many paper copies. This shows me they don't have a clear grasp on the billing of my account
-3 years on for £80 seems to be an excessively cruel punishment!
-I have since opened a new account with them

Go to: http://www.ombudsman-services.org/communications.html with your complaint if you are not out of time.

Also report to: https://ico.org.uk/concerns/handling/ if they did not give you any warning and chance to rectify/pay before they applied the default.

  • I really appreciate that. I'd not thought of it.

Might fire one more email to them before beginning that process to see what happens.

    Thanks again
  • Phone companies are notoriously bad at registering defaults for trivial amounts.

I'm afraid the default will remain on your credit file for 6 years unless you can get O2 to remove it.

I would make an official complaint to O2 and if that doesn't work escalate the matter to the ombudsman.

    Good luck :)

I appreciate that the consequences may feel that way but it is not 'punishment'. It is just a reporting of facts.

Your credit score is irrelevant anyway and you will probably find that after this amount of time a lot of lenders will not have a major issue with it.
