stop sanctioning people would be a start. Jobcentres have become places to fear, you are not allowed to starve a dog in this country so why should you be able to do it to a human?

That would be a good start put the emphasis back into helping not sanctioning!

No, it wouldn't. It's not that simple. I agree not to set targets for sanctioning and to stop sanctioning people to try and get rid of them, but people who don't want to work, don't search and apply for jobs and don't turn up for appointments shouldn't get free money for doing nothing at all.

That is not and never has been the point of benefits. They're for people out of work who are looking for work and that's how it should be.

Nobody is starving anybody. There are places people can go to get food for free.

As for helping, well that depends how they are going to help. When I first signed on they attempted to help by printing off jobs which they told me to apply for. I hated that. They picked some rubbish jobs and they were all just on their website so it's not like they were hidden jobs or anything. I much prefered them not helping and searching myself, finding jobs I knew were suitable and applying for them. Also their "courses" they have to help (or did have) are beyond useless.

Yes there are. You agree to complete set actions for the agreement when you first sign on. These are general.

Then you have the diary which is documenting each individual action.

E.g. Agreement, check Indeed. (1 set action.)
Diary, checked Indeed and applied for xxx and xxx. (3 actions)

The agreement is 3 set actions that you agree to keep repeating while signing on (e.g. check Indeed, check Reed, check your local newspaper). The amount of actions for the diary varies between people and will be different things each week, but they will include the set actions of the agreement (as above).
i'm not sure but i think perhaps we are not thinking of the same thing here. do you mean the work plan booklet when you say diary?

Yeah. The work plan booklet is a diary of all the actions you do each week. Although at times while signed on I just had a piece of paper to record things on.

well did you know it is not mandatory to fill this in to qualify for benefit? most advisers know this and dont even bother looking at mine. even my current adviser who asked me to fill it in once a week doesnt look at it anymore. they never specified anything to put in it either. so i write the exact same thing word for word every week. even though they no longer look at it i keep filling it in just to save any hassle but once it is full i wont be telling them its full.

we shouldn't need foodbanks today, they are the result of sanctions and delays in benefits. They only give 3 days worth of food so ive been told, and they don't have everything you need either like all the toiletries you might need! All the food is donated and its not right people have to buy food to help people who have been sanctioned.

A basic income is the way forward.

you still can do that if you want. Its not compulsory to fill in the pointless work book or give them access to your online applications.

Where does it officially say that it is not mandatory?

You have to prove you're looking for work and that's how you show them (or by doing it online). That doesn't mean they have to care and check it.

I used to write exactly the same for the most part, along with a few of the jobs I'd applied for (no room for more).

Bit stupid really that booklet as the top should alway be the same as you're meant to do the same things each week. The bottom then has to show you've done the top so most of that is the same. When they give you a piece of paper instead it has a table to fill in so you have to write down a lot more and they tend to check that a bit more carefully for some reason.

They do have random checks regarding work plans/diaries. At times they do crack down on those writing fake jobs down or just writing the exact same thing which means they're checking far more. I was warned of them doing that so if you are doing that it gives you a chance to fill it in properly.

There are no warnings with the random checks as they just select so many to check at various points in the year, but they do look up what you've been doing and check job applications during the checks. It's someone else that does that check, not your advisor.

It's not compulsory to give them online access as that's against the data protection act. However, you have to prove you're looking for work.

Where does it say it's not compulsary to fill a work plan/diary? Some advisors may allow print screens of applications, but you still have to give some form of proof.

I initially put my job search in it but was quickly told that's not what it's for. It's just for an overall plan for that week. For example I will enquire about a training course. I just put I will jobseek each day and below say I job searched everyday on the following websites and applied for suitable jobs. It's not worded exactly like that. I write it in a way as to fill the space. I dont allow them access ujm. I record my job search in the grey diary sheets.
I am part of some jobseeker groups on Facebook and it was in one of them ages ago about it not being mandatory to fill in the work plan. Although if you are being allowed to record your job search there then that's fine as otherwise you would just need to record it elsewhere. I am surprised they haven't told you not to like I have been here.

If I had an adviser asking for print outs I would say I need to be provided with printing facilities by them as it costs at places like a library. Then you lump a big pile of print outs In front of them when you sign. They would soon change their tune I suspect.
