Tongue and groove panel in bathroom

Hi there, we have just bought our first house and the bathroom is tongue and groove half way up the walls from the floor (including around the bath) and is painted in a hideous shade of blue! The suite is cream, we are planning on replacing the whole suite eventually (when we can afford it) but want to make it look presentable untill then. My idea was to have some sort of limewash effect and have a sort of seaside feel to it, is it possible to do this over the existing paintwork and if so how? The sink is set into a vanity unit and there is a wooden panel oon the bath and these are varnished wood, I want to paint them to match the tongue and groove - is this also possible? Presumably I will need to waterproof in some way?
Any advice greatly appreciated

had the same at my old house, except it was electric pink! I found atwo step solution best.
1. nitromorse the paint two to three times to get the worst away.
2. you can buy a plastic disc from B&Q to fit in the end of a drill to strip paint, it doesn't look much but it really works, just be sure to wear googles, a mask and nothing else as you will get covered in blue dust, so keep the doors shut!
Mine went back to its original wood and would be fine for doing what ever treatment you wanted to.It wasn't me.............it was the one armed man!0 -
on these DIY programmes they 'limewash" by watering down cheap emulsion and dry brushing over the under colour to the desired effect. never done it myself though!!!0

Cheers  I think we are going to try and overpaint it as we have decided we are going to replace the whole bathroom suite as soon as we can, we need to turn the bath around and move it up to the other side in order to fix in a shower so it's going to be a case of 'make do and mend' untill then!0

if its a temp job then dont waste time stripping it all off. just a rub down and put some paint on. almost any kind will do to last a while.
some trick effects can be had by rubbing down harder in some places and gently in others. do it again with the white top coat. use a satin or matt finish.Get some gorm.0 -
I would paint it a similar cream colour to your bath and then paint above in a lovely blue colour if you are wanting a seaside theme. My bathroom has panelling and we have done it white with a sandy colour on top. I have added natural wood blinds, shells and lots of chocolatey colour textures. It looks gorgeous so this may put you on for now.

Did you treat the wood with anything or just paint? and have you sealed the paint with anything?0 -
If i remember rightly it was just under-coated (cos it was new wood)and then painted with white eggshell type paint. Wipes down really easily but looks lovely and fresh.
