Sandoft Roof Tiles

Hi
We're planning to re roof our house. We'd originally intended to use the Sandoft Cassius tiles but we're also intending to extend the house & the extension will have a very shallow pitched roof which apparently we will need to use the Sandoft 20 20 roof tiles to cope with the pitch.
We are now considering doing the whole roof in the 20 20 so everything matches.
Does anyone know how the cost of the cassius compares with the 20 20 ? I've searched online but I can't find prices.
Obviously I want the finished build to look good but the the costs are going up & up.
Thanks
Jen

Contact your local builders merchants for an answer. Be discrete, and do not give your address or you may risk having the tiles "Registered".
The potential problem would be limited availability of your requirements based on logistics - purely transport distance - but I do not know where you are located. Certainly in my part of the UK Sandtoft would be a non starter for a one off house. (A different scenario with the volume house builders because of their bulk ordering and national build contracts.)0 -
Hi Furts,
I'm based in Lancashire. I didn't realise there are supply issues with sandoff tiles, Thanks for the warning !
The roofer proposed the sandoff cassius tiles earlier this year so I presumed he'd be able to source them easily. That is what are initial estimates were based on.
However as the build has developed & we've been told that we'd need to use the 20 20s on the extension because of the shallow pitch. So thats why we're considering using 20 20s across the whole roof so that it all matches. So far we've not had any mention of a problem with sourcing these tiles.
Do you know how they compare price wise ?
Cheers

I cannot give you an answer because of fundamentals. The tiles are made near Hull, and a significant part of the cost is the law of supply and demand. They are not a huge company.
Also, a significant cost is transport around the country to deliver to the end user.
The actual tile production is relatively low cost. Sandtoft crudely dig up local clay and bake it into tiles.
I had a run in/ fierce disagreement with the company ten years ago over their price rigging/profiteering. Their attitude was they did not give a f-ck about the end use, nor about me as a specifier. I have not dealt with them since then for obvious reasons!
Some time after this a client specified Sandtoft about 150 miles from Hull and Sandtoft were given a fresh chance to show some decency. The Planners vetoed the proposal - they were not having Sandtoft in that area of the UK! So there was no part two to my showdown with Sandtoft!
It is your decision - I have not heard anything negative about the product but be ultra careful about getting prices and dealing with the company. That is probably why your web searches have been negative. You should be approaching a reputable local builders merchants, as I advised in may earlier post. You may get a quote or you may receive a discrete, but genuine, response!0
