Is Pinkypants (or anyone else) there for some advice on single mattress please?

Wonder if I could get some advice on buying a single mattress for my son's bedroom. I'm guessing he's about 10 stone if it helps.
I would prefer a pocket sprung one without memory foam/latex/pillow topper/no-turn one but don't know how many springs a single mattress should ideally have.
I've been looking at Rest Assured, Sealy and Relyon on The Sleep Shop website and a few others. Was looking to spend approx £200.
Advice welcome.
Thanks - Dolly

Hi Dolly,
All spring counts on mattress are always counted on the 5ft version. So if you by a single mattress that says 1200 springs, the 5ft version of that mattress will have 1200 springs. The single will have just under 3/5th's of that. It has just under because 5ft mattress are 6ft6 long and a 3ft is usually only 6ft3 long.
Have a look for a company called Deep Sleep, The Chatsworth 1000 is pretty good value for money.
You want 1000 spring and over really, spring counts of 600 and 800 aren't up to much.
Hope that helps a little.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Thank you Pinkypants.
I've had a quick look for Deepsleep Beds UK Ltd but I can't find a website at the moment but we are still preparing the room for decorating so will have a better look later.

I found the above one earlier which is the same website that Passion Flower ordered the Restus Crystal from but it does say it's orthopaedic which translates to "hard" doesn't it?
I did find a find Chatsworth 1000 on the Bedzrus website.
Got to get back to sandpapering at the moment.
Thank you again. Much appreciated.

Restus sadly have gone bust!
So if it is the Crystal it'll be old stock. Not really a problem unless you have to claim under the guarantee as doubt they'd be able to replace exactly like for like.
I'm torn between the last 2. The 4000 count is made in Dewsbury which is where Restus were.
Still not sure sorry.
I'm use to touching, poking and lifting the mattresses to get real idea of what they're like.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Hi Pinkypants
Thank you so much for replying. I knew Restus had gone bump from reading your comments on an older thread. I would have ordered the Crystal for me and OH as well as the single but we weren't decorating at the time so we missed out.
I just found 4000 pocket springs a bit unbelievable.
I will have another look tomorrow.
I hope you are well and that things are working out for you - I have read the Employment thread.
Thank you for your help.

4000 springs is quite achievable, it's 2000 spring units 1 on top on another. Overkill really, but they do it as it'll create a different "feel" to 2000 springs on their own.
We seem obsessed with spring count for some strange reason.
I am employed again, but sadly due to personal life only been their 6 days out of the last 8 weeks. But they've been very good to me and kept me on for the moment. Time will tell. Family life is improving weekly.
Thanks for the thoughts. Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Hi sorry to hijack the thread but was looking for some advice from pinkypants . My mother is in need of a new mattress and she suffers with a bad back. I've found it overwhelming searching for the right mattress ,more so one that won't easy sag and is affordable to me . I'm interested in purchasing your recommendation of the deep sleep silk 1000 but as my mother suffers from night sweats , would a coolmax mattress topper actually help with becoming overheated?
Thanks in advance0
