Keylogger

Options
So...call me suspicious or whatever, but I think my partner is cheating on me. On our shared laptop he is always snide about his actions. I am okay with !!!!!! but think he is doing more than that on a chat site. I have been suggested keyloggers by a colleague but not a specific recommendation.
Can anyone suggest a keylogger or something similar I can install onto the laptop? Would something similar work on phones?
Have seen some USB sticks claiming to be keyloggers but not sure.
TA :)

    See a divorce lawyer.

Interception of communication or unauthorised interference with a computer is an offence under the Computer Misuse Act punishable by a prison term.

What are the outcomes of using a keylogger? Either you catch him red-handed, or you've become an criminal peeping-tom, spying on your innocent partner for no reason.

Either way, it looks like a clear sign the relationship's over. If you can't trust each other, what's the point?

Maybe relationship counselling would be a better way to openly discuss your problems to see if you can learn to trust each other again?

Do you not think he might not notice a USB stick poking out the side of the laptop?.

If you have access to a 2nd PC/Laptop, install something like 'Teamviewer' on both machines. Then you can remotely spy on him.

  • With a keylogger you only see what he types and not what he is actually typing it into.

As mentioned though, how will you hide it? And make sure the firewall and antivirus don't block it?

Simple screen recorder running in the background?

May I draw your attention to:

Sections 35 to 38 of the Police and Justice Act 2006 contains amendments to the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
Section 37 (Making, supplying or obtaining articles for use in computer misuse offences) inserts a new section 3A into the 1990 Act and has drawn considerable criticism from IT professionals, as many of their tools can be used by criminals in addition to their legitimate purposes, and thus fall under section 3A.

    Notably:

supplying or obtaining articles for use in computer misuse offences
