AA renewal

Good news. Just phoned the AA and negotiated renewal figure down from £63.23 to £42, with effect from 24 October.
Spoke to a very pleasant call handler who said that last year's figure of £39.99 was a one-off introductory offer (funny, I'd been a continuous member for 11 years then)
but he said he could do me £46 for this year. I said that I'd had an offer at 50% less than last year's renewal ( which would bring it to about £33) and he then said he could do me at £42, which I accepted with alacrity. It seems that the figure given in the renewal notice is just a starting point for negotiation. As an earlier poster said, the AA seem to be relying on the apathy of most members in just accepting the initial figure and allowing automatic renewal to take effect.
Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.0 -
Nice one. Now take a similar approach with your house and car insurance...:)

An update, one year on.
I received Renewal Notice from AA for renewal on 24 October 2016. Renewal figure quoted was £66.50 for roadside cover only, vehicle membership (not personal).
I phoned today and managed to negotiate this down to £39.99, which is £2 less than last year and the exact same figure as renewal at October 2014.
Another reasonable result, I think.0 -
It's time for my annual "phone them up to drastically cut the renewal" as my letter arrived yesterday - £70.65 for Personal. It's £49 on their website so will call them tomorrow. I think I paid £50 last year after phoning them.
I've actually had to use their service for the first time ever last week - stupidly left my keys in the ignition and locked the car! (I have to manually lock it from the inside by reaching across from the passenger side, otherwise the alarm will once in a blue moon randomly go off - usually at 2am).
Was impressed by the service, the guy knew his stuff and managed to open it, and the tracking on the app was great so I knew when he was due to arrive.0
