This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Thanks to all who've sent well-wishes for William Cat. He's a lot brighter this morning although his ear is painful but I think he'll survive ;)

Been awake since 2am, got up at 3:50am and I hate, hate, hate insomnia. I'm so tired :( I think I'll be going back to bed soon as my eyes are getting heavy.

Plan for today involves a visit to my place of worship, small shop and possibly seeing friends tonight. But that depends on how long I can manage to sleep/stay awake. I'm seeing my CPN on Friday and will see if she can suggest anything to help.

Morning :hello:

notjustlaura I'm glad the little man is feeling better x

The tiling was started then abandoned. Master tru didn't pay attention to the bag of adhesive, he just carried on the way he normally does. He didn't realise we'd bought the quick drying stuff – neither did we actually, when we ordered the tiles I just said “and enough adhesive for that lot please” - and he mixed up loads in one go, he was halfway through the bucket when it started to harden :D So only a quarter of the tiles are on the wall. On the plus side, we haven't been delayed because he planned to tile yesterday and grout today, with this stuff you can grout three hours after tiling so we should be back on track by the end of today. The tile place opens at 11am so we'll nip down there for more supplies, then he can carry on working.

Today I can move the shower cubicle out of the lounge. Bit wary of doing it by myself, it's in two long thin boxes and they're easy to carry but quite heavy, I'm convinced I'll trip over the dog or something and smash them, lol. I'll wait til one of the others is up to help me then I can clean that end of the room. I feel like I'm getting my house back :D

I've got two big piles of clean washing to put away, somehow I've managed to get the stuff dry without it getting covered in dust, lol. There's another load of towels waiting to be washed then Scampi's blankets will have to go in. I can't use the washing line today so it'll all have to go on the airer til the tile-cutting has finished. I need to flick the duster around downstairs then vacuum the floors, the kitchen will have to wait til later because dust will be traipsed through (the whole kitchen floor is being used as a giant doormat!). I'll be pottering around the garden this morning, no doubt interrupted by shouts of 'any chance of a cuppa?' :D

Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off, I agree insomnia is awful.

I have slept for hours from our early last night, we had dinner at just after 5pm, so I got my pj's etc on early evening and got comfy on the sofa, next thing I remember is waking up all alone downstairs - all the menfolk had gone to bed and it was 11pm, so I just went up to bed and went straight back to sleep and slept until just after 5.30am this morning, some of that is due to not sleeping very well the night before, as DS1 went out and I was waiting to see if he needed a lift home in the early hours, then I didn't sleep very well when I did get to bed.

Still dark here, but air doesn't feel as cold as yesterday morning, forecast is for another decent day, was lovely and bright sunshine most of the day yesterday - got a big line of washing dried, so will try the same today if I have enough for a load.

The caravan event DH and myself attended yesterday was fine, and we got home mid afternoon, we were going to visit the outlaws and my parents but rang and my parents weren't at home (they're always off out somewhere, so good they are still so active but DH's parents hardly go anywhere and FIL has a cold - so we stayed at home). This morning DS1 and DH are up watching the F1, we're going to see DH's grandad this morning, so we'll be away good time, once F1 has finished, I'll put the meat in the oven on automatic preset timer so it just turns itself on, I'll also try and get all the veg prepped and pack ups done then once we've had lunch - I get to chill for the rest of the afternoon.

I would like to be up to date with all the washing etc and start the week as from next weekend we have something on every weekend until the last weekend in October start of November - so we'll be busy busy!

Lunch today we be roast lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, cabbage, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy.

Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

Keep safe and well x

• Good Morning everyone, He Who Knows woke me up early this morning tiptoeing around to go down to watch the Grand Prix, why is it that men tiptoe more noisily than they walk? Ne'mind I'd had enough sleep anyway.

LAURA glad William is on the mend, poor little chap, I hope his ear rapidly becomes less sore and that he gets his 'ping' back. Pushkin cat tells me very earnestly that tinned tuna fish is the best medicine for kitten people with sore ears, in fact so earnestly that I smell something fishy!!!

It looks like being another nice day here today so I'll get into the hothouses and pick, particularly tomatoes which we're overrun with at the moment, the cherry tomatoes have been so prolific this year and still they keep ripening although they're not quite so thick on the ground as they were a coup[le of weeks ago. We've been fed well by the plots this summer and have many rows of leeks and parsnips to see us through the coming winter too and there are lots of butternut squash beginning to make their way home to the kitchen at the moment, good job they store I think!

Have yourselves a nice day all, hope you all get nice weather and can enjoy some outside time, Lyn xxx.

Morning all. The makings of yet another lovely day ahead - aren't we getting spoiled with the return of some nice warm days? I can cope with the chilly nights as it makes bed more comfortable. Even though it doesn't help my sleeping! BTW am pleased William the Puss is feeling better this morning bless him.

I am feeling a bit apprehensive about this but DS is taking Mr TA to the rugby between Scotland & USA at Elland Road this afternoon. He bought the tickets ages ago as an early birthday treat for Mr TA. They don't support either team, it's just because Elland Road is the nearest venue to us to experience the world cup. It's role reversal now, DS is under strict instructions to look after his dad and support him if there is any shoving and pushing, as he's not very steady on his pins. I'll be worrying till they are safely back home!

Meanwhile, I'll take advantage of not having Mr TA under my feet and tackle a few long neglected jobs. Priority being cleaning the windows inside, which used to be one of Mr TA's jobs before he got too weak to do them.

A few texts from DD yesterday. She was enjoying her child-free weekend at the caravan immensely! They were at the last meeting of the season at Ripon Races and were having mixed fortunes! In our experience there are only a few winners there and that's the bookies!!
Today they are looking forward to going to the big car boot fair, without having to constantly fork out for some rubbish or other one of the girls wanted!!

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS)))))) if wanted/needed and take care xx

Morning everyone.

The trip to mum's went well yesterday and I managed to get home too. She's well enough now so that was lovely to see.

I got back in time to get a takeaway out on the plate, pour a glass of wine and plonk myself on the sofa for Strictly and Dr Who, both brilliant. OH had been off choo-chooing again and crept back very late so is still sound asleep in the spare room. I leave the electric blanket and light on got him usually.

Today...no idea. Can't see anything strenuous being done. There's plenty in the fridge, no washing apart from underwear and not enough to bother with.

Camelot - thanks for the offer. Will certainly take you up on it once the car is brought up. I was going to say 'wheels are in motion' but it was too much of a pun!

I may sleep some more now.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Good morning, I hope it is ok for a newbie to join in?
Washing done overnight and looks like a great drying day. I will soon be off to see a friend, courtesy of my ancient person bus pass, dropping in at the local m & s outlet for a couple of tops for work, my work clothes are getting rather shabby. Then back to roast a chicken to be served with lots of veg.
I may sleep on the bus, been up half the night, being such a light sleeper is a right pain
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• Hello ANCIENTOFDAYS welcome to the daily thread, it's one of the most supportive and pleasant threads on OS. Lovely to have new people join in and share the highs and lows of life with us, welcome to the family!
• Morning, ((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Its a cool 8c just now, the sun is trying to get through, so we should have another nice day. The grass is so wet we do not have to water the new grass until tonight.

Large pack of mince taken out, will cook it up and then make a shepherds pie for supper and freeze the rest in portions for spag bol and mince and tatties or dumplings.

OH wants to put the membrane down at the side of the house, so will have to give him a hand with that. We have some welsh slate to put down but there is not enough, we need to get some more when I have some pennies to spare.

Just now we are saving to have a few days away next spring. I had to cancel our holiday this year due to OH not being fit enough to go, so we have rebooked to go in late April. The early work in the garden will have been done, so we can safely leave it for a week. Maybe we will get away in the autumn next year too.

Hi all,

I,ve not been posting much, but read every day.

It's a beautiful day here.

I,m another one lacking sleep, it always seems to be around the full moon that I wake up around midnight, and rarely get back to sleep before 3/4 am - hey-Ho

Our 2 adopted girl cats (Cilla and Bobbi) have been with us for a month now, they are more settled, with Cilla, the mum, regularly sleeping with us and loves a stroke, I,m a bit concerned about Bobbi, the daughter, she rarely lets me near her, she is getting better, but Mum always butts in for love, she sometimes swipes at Bobbi if I show her attention. If I move too quickly stroking Cilla, she flinches away. I,m starting to suspect that they have,t had a brilliant start in life, and the Mum is protecting her daughter from humans - they obviously not had much socialisation - I'll get there with them, it's just a trust thing - Bobbie does like me chatting with her, she purrs like mad we sit on the patio together and I have been allowed to stroke her head a couple of times now :)

Our 2 boys don,t seem phased by them, so that's good.

Enough gabbling - roast chicken today, will make a pie with leftovers, and maybe risotto with the scraps.

Enjoy this wonderful weather all x
