Some very good advice above - however if the service company have renewed the maintanence contract with you and the parts required are available the onus to do the work remains with them.
The service company have a duty of care to advise you in writing that your boiler has become end of life and that they will not continue to take direct debit payments from you.0 -

Thanks
I totally agree with your comments. We did receive a letter to inform us that the boiler was beyond repair and was being taken off contract. We cancelled the direct debit to stop them taking any further money given their decision.
We have another make of boiler going in on Wedesday because we cannot wait any longer as we need our heating now.
On the 17th September Domestic and Gereral said that our complaint had been escalated to their senior complaints department and once it has been allocated to an agent they will contact us. Still waiting, there must be one heck of a lot of complaints that their people have to sort out given we've not heard from them yet.0 -
There are many "expert" companies at "NOT" doing this and not just for central heating.
If only they would place as much effort into providing a good service instead of using thier skills in delay and deceipt - the world would be a better place!
PS, OP - don't forget, everything in writing & good luck.0 -

cheers, too right and well said. Mind you I don't know if I'm just getting old lol but people seem to be quick to just chuck stuff away and replace with new nowadays. I'm not referring to an ancient boiler when I say that, because it's a dinosaur now. But it has become a throw away society. We need a new dishwasher and I was reading on the net about people having a dishwasher that was one year old just throwing it away because they wanted a newer model that matched their kitchen! One person even remarked that they would pay for a certain make just so they could have the pride of ownership..................it's a dishwasher! Now I'm ranting lol, sorry.and going off topic.
Mind you, the more people that don't mind how much they spend and how often they have to spend it, the manufactures could reduce the quality of the items. IE: ten years and your boiler needs changing, even if it still works............0 -
what you having fitted on wed ?I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
People on here may or may not agree with our choice but after a lot of research we decided on a Ideal Vogue 40w with their wireless thermo/timer. Not our cheapest option but has turned out way cheaper than one Worcester accredited installers quote for a 25i boiler that wasn't much different in spec to the 240 we have, that price was all but £3,000 with vat.
We were going to go with Vaillant but I contacted them through their website for some details of an accredited installer in our area and nobody got back to me, even though I requested contact on their form.
I just realised that in my post I've referred to Worester Bosch saying the expansion vessel for our boiler hasn't been available since 2013, we've got email confirmation saying it is actually 2012, just checked, thought I'd better mention my mistake.0 -
It's an easy fit as it's going back in the same position as our existing boiler in an integral garage on an outside wall.0

Hi just seen this post, sorry didn't see it earlier.
We must have been very lucky as we've always had Worcester Bosch engineers for all the callouts and services we've had over the years.0
