Warm Homes Discount
Im unsure if this has been posted here before, but incase it hasnt, some beneifit claimants are entitled to a warm homes discount.
Im not an expert, and dont know which benefits are applicable, or even if all energy suppliers participate, but will say it seems to be a somewhat buried sort.of topic.
Ask your energy supplier for more info is the best advice i can offer i guess.
Sorry to be so vague, i hope this may help someone out.

Core Group are households of less well-off pensioners - no need to apply the whole service is DWP automated.
Broader Group customers are fuel poor or in a group at risk of fuel poverty - you must apply to your provider.
Your chances of getting into the broader group with any new supplier this late in the cycle must be pretty low to zero because its first come first served supplier discretion.
Jurisdiction for the core group belongs to DWP who authorize the support in writing to (1) householder [brown envelope] and (2) supplier data transfer beginning at or around the middle of September each year so any core group entitled household would expect the 'brown envelope via snail mail' beginning this week. The reduction of this years £140 should appear in your electricity bill before the end of April 2016. On the letter from the DWP there is a reference number on the TLHS which begins with an M or a U. If the letter is M you don't need to do anything if the letter is U this means that the DWP aren't sure who your electricity supplier is. You’ll need to give the DWP a call [using the telephone number on the letter] and give them your electricity account number and Meter Point Administration Number [MPAN]. You'll find the information you need on your electricity bill, so have this handy when you call. But don’t delay, if you don’t call them by the date specified on your letter, you won't get your discount.
Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. A neighbour is a little concerned as she has been paid this twice.
She applied and was paid in September.
She then got a letter from 'the government', and a week later a letter from Eon to say she's been credited with another £140.
She's written to them (not too good on the phone), but this seems very odd and I wondered if anyone here knows what's going on.0 -

Morning Zedicus,
It sounds like she applied to us for the warm home discount was accepted and we paid, Broader Group. However, she's then been identified by the DWP as being in the Core Group so automatically receives the payment. It can happen but it's rare to be paid twice.
It's doubtful it'll ask to be returned.
However, could they may have mixed one of the payments up with the government heating allowance that all people over a certain age get maybe?
Thank you

Unlikely to be a mix up as described above, since the Winter Fuel Payment is paid by the DWP on top of the state pension, not credited by the energy supplier. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
