Metrobank (in Europe) & Nationwide Flex Plus (there's a fee but well worth it if you need the travel insurance and breakdown cover).

But if you use it properly the Clarity is only very slightly more expensive.

Metrobank is fee free only in Europe and Nationwide Plus, which I also have, has Non-Sterling Transaction Fee. That is why I normally use Norwich & Peterborough building society Visa debit card for cash withdrawals abroad but, as you said, Clarity is almost as good if used properly.

Yes, I think we're saying the same thing - but you don't need to wait till after the statement date to pay it. You could make a withdrawal 3 days before statement date and pay it off 1 day before, assuming it's hit the account, rather than wait till after the statement date. Unstatemented cash advances are paid before unstatemented purchases.

Yes, we are. You have clarified things for me. Thanks

Nationwide FlexPlus doesn't charge for cash withdrawals. Though it does charge for purchases.

Yes, you are right. Next time I shall take it with me as a backup to N&P debit card. I shall continue to use Clarity for purchases.
  • Just reading this thread with interest. Surely if you add money onto the credit card, effectively adding a balance before going on holiday, then this will counteract the fact you will be in debt. I know this is not strictly how credit cards should be used but I have had positive balance on my credit cards before, refunds, overpaying the balance etc, so therefore if you effectively load the Halifax Clarity card before you go then this should counteract any interest charge from time of withdrawing when abroad as there is a positive balance!

For the sake of a few pence interest, I wouldn't take the risk of having the account closed while overseas.
