Notice of Enforcement for ex

Hello... sorry if this is a stupid question but I've never had a letter like this before and don't know what to do.
I've received a letter in the post today from marston high court enforcement officers stating 'Notice of Enforcement' for a debt owed to TFL for £202 + £75 fees.
The letter is addressed to my ex-husband, we are separated but not yet divorced.
He does not live here and has never lived here, no other letters have come to my address or his current address regarding this debt. I can only assume they've looked on his credit file and found a Nationwide account with his name on at this address, as we still have a joint account that has my address listed as the primary one. I know, I need to sort that out ASAP. But I assume he has plenty of his own accounts at his address so no idea why they've gone for this address, anyway.

He says the debt isn't his, it appears to relate to a car he sold, I suspect he's going to have to pay it anyway however. But he is incredibly slow to sort anything out and I'm very, very afraid they're going to send bailiffs here.
Is there anything I can do? Their automated line says they won't discuss with a third party.
Am I jointly liable if we're still married??

  • Id send it back marked "unknown at this address"
  • You are not responsible. Just return the letter to Marstons with a note of his current address.

That's all you have to do. It's nothing to do with you.

Yes, just reseal the envelope with sellotape.

If they do turn up (as they might do to justify the next level of fees) you should speak to them through the letterbox or upstairs window.

    Be very clear:

    he doesn't live here
none of his property is here
I'm not allowing you access and you have no right to force entry

and, no, you are not in any way liable for a debt solely in his name, married or not

Sorry to bump this up but ex has obviously not dealt with it yet as I've now had a second letter to my address informing him they are going to send enforcement agents to seize stuff.

I'm pretty freaked out (and angry), do they definitely have no right to take anything if he doesn't live here? He has NEVER lived here, I don't understand why they don't use the address I have given them for him.

So you are still opening his mail, even though you know it has nothing to do with you?

Follow the instructions above. What has been said still stands.

  • They have absolutely no right to force entry to your home, so don't worry about it. Just make sure you close your windows if you leave the house though!

He asked me to open if they sent anything further, and I'm glad of that as I would prefer to be warned of a visit than open the door unknowingly. But thanks for that.
