Court Summons for penalty fare paid 3 years ago.

Options
Hello,

Hoping someone can help with this!

I've recently received a court summons for non-payment of a driving fine I received (and paid!) 3 years ago. This was sent to my old address (since forwarded on) and I've been ignoring the letters so far as I no longer live there and also, I've paid this fine.

My questions would be now- has this happened to anyone else, and what did you do?

If I need to prove that I've paid this fine, I no longer hold the associated bank account- is there any way to recover the statements?

Any constructive advice gratefully received, thanks.

Contact the bank that the fine was paid through. Seeif they can help.

It really doenst pay to ignore mail,as you have found out, it just makes it harder in the long run.

    Good luck.

Is this a private parking charge or a council penalty charge? You also mention a driving fine - for speeding/wrong way up a one-way system, or what? And you mention 'fare'.

    What/which are you talking about?

They sent the letter to an address I haven't lived at in almost three years, surely they can't legitimately expect me to acknowledge it?

I can't help thinking that if it was a legitimate fine, they would have verified my address on the electoral roll?

It was issued by Lambeth Council- it was for some sort of driving offence, I think driving in a bus lane, but it being 3 years ago, I'm not 100% sure. Definitely not a parking fine though.

As we tend to major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for council tickets. Here's your link:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=30

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate).

PePiPoo has an excellent success record in dealing with council tickets.

    Thanks @Umkomaas, that's a really good site!

There seem to be quite a few people stating that 2+ years is too long a delay for a council to continue to persue a fine (quite aside from the fact that it's paid!) Does anyone know anything about how long the council are allowed to take to do this?
