I'm at my wits end and Looking for advice from them in the no! I can't get a Morgague due to defaults on my account which I believe there is issues with all 3 here goes !
1. Barclays Bank I went over drawn by 116 due to burying my head in the sand and not appreciating credit reports ! Any way I rang the bank to pay this off in full the guy on the phone said the account has been shut so there's nothing we can do ? Advice please can I go in the bank and pay in full and get this changed to settled ?
2, sainsburys loan I missed 4 payments on my loan but during this time I was in contact with them and they froze the payments each month until I arranged to pay a lesser monthly fee for a period of 3 months then I increased the payments and pay full loan off early but when I checked my report there is a default on there from them even though the date of the default I was making regular payments and in constant contact with them is there anything I can do to get this removed ?
3 , orange phone bill, I got a mobile for my ex anyway we broke up and I moved out and never thought anymore of it as she always payed it etc then suddenly I get a letter from Lovell saying I owed 987 and my account had been defaulted as soon as I received the letter I payed the debt off in 3 payments can they default my account without ever contacting me to say you owe money and we're going to default you ? All these have made it impossible to get a Morgague please help!! Thanks chris

  • They all seem like fairly standard reasons for a default I'm afraid so I'm not sure how likely you are to get them removed.

You should ask to speak to the Barclay's collections dept in order to pay the debt, or failing that the debt company they've sold it to.

In regards to getting a mortgage, this may still be possible depending on how recent these defaults are but you're likely going to need a specialist broker.

  • As you have defaulted on the agreements you had in place with each of the companies, I wouldn't recommend looking at having them temived as it's likely just going to waste your time and leave you feeling worse at the end of it.
The fact that they are settled certainly helps, it shows that although you have had issues, you've been prepared to rectify them. As said above, the length of time since you settled each default is quite important, if they are recent it will unfortunately be extremely difficult to obtain a mortgage, unless your willing to pay an extortionate interest rate. I would suggest looking to get a credit card designed for limited/bad credit history, use it for a few small purchases each month and pay off in full. Work on improving your credit file and consider a mortgage in a few years time. Although it seems a long time and is probably the last thing you want to hear, it's definitely for the best as if you manage to get one now, you'll realise a few years down the line that the interest your paying is ridiculous
