Council housing bidding - shortlisted

Hi everyone!!!
I apologise in advance if posted in the wrong section I couldn't see a section specially for this but seen a few landlord queries in this section so please move if incorrect.
So I guess after apologies I need to explain why I am asking for people's help and advice. Well after a lot of ill health and loss of jobs we lost our 2 bed house and had to go to emergency temporary housing(Bedsit for a couple with 1 of us being disabled) and our 4 cats are being fostered by our friend. Back in March we were put on the council bidding list band b and we have been bidding every week in hope we would get a place. Last week we agreed if we didn't have a bigger place we would go back private.
I bidded on a property last week new build 1 bed PERFECT!! we were position one up untill 1150 at night and some slid a bid in at 1156 making them top position
But then on Thursday I went to bid on this weeks properties and it said I can't as I have been shortlisted for a property bid on last week (EXCITED!!!!!!) but now I'm wondering whether we have been shortlisted as a back up or whether shortlisted for the property and what happens next? It's a housing association property but bidding on it via council.
I have never been in this situation before and wondering if anyone who has a council property or going through this situation if anyone has any advice or knowledge on what's going to happen next?

Presumably the person at number one gets to look first and if they turn it down you get next refusal. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
The Housing Forum is the place for this, not MRF!0

Choice based social housing allocation is usually accompanied by very detailed information about how the policy operates so that tenants understand the process.
Each social housing landlord has to follow core mandatory rules set down by the govt but they are also given discretion in some areas so they set their own additional rules.
This is why no-one here can answer your question and why the housing forum members can only give you general answers.
Your social housing landlord's allocations policy is likely to be unique to them and you can only be advised about it by them - you have a very specific question. Go and ask them.0 -
When I worked for a housing association they shortlisted so many and then whoever was at number 1 got first refusal, then it went to number 2 and so on. So if you were number 5 you'd only get it if the previous 4 had refused.
However, different associations might work differently. It should explain on the site how it works.0 -

I know when my brother was on the waiting list he could see where he was inline when he was short listed for a property when he logged on to his account.0
