energy bill....not paid

Nice to see a positive outcome for a customer. Do check if you can switch to a more competitive tariff though ecsb, even if it's just to another of E.On's ones. You are presumably now on their standard (and most expensive) tariff.
I can sympathise with you not spotting such an amount no longer leaving your account every month. Although I would notice on mine, because I monitor that particular account closely, but I would notice they had not been paid, rather than it not leaving my bank account. With so many different things paid in monthly instalments these days, I can think of several items I would not notice if they stopped; TV licence, water rates, telephone etc. The transactions flowing through most people's accounts are numerous and varied. If my council tax wasn't collected one month, I probably would not even notice that, and that's more than the OP's utility payments were. Would doubtless notice if significantly more was taken one month, but that's human nature!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks to all, even to those who posted negative comments. I have now had my bill slashed from £679 to £449. I was contacted by eon earlier in the week before i had written my letter and offered compensation of £30. I refused and mentioned the back billing, the gentleman looked at account and said oh i hadn't realised this. My revised bill was sorted yesterday so i would say result. I would not have known about back billing without you lot. so thanks.
Good morning ecsb,
Thank you very much for posting your update, I'm really pleased things have worked out for you.
I agree with victor2 and talk to us about making sure you're on the best tariff for you, you can also have a look at them on the website, if that helps.
Thanks again.
