A couple of years ago I used Rated people.com and Mybuilder for finding trustworthy people to do various plumbing, building work. I always got good responses. What a contrast today. Nothing. Not one reply or response to posted jobs. Even directly inviting a tradesmen to a specific electrical job they do not respond.
Does anyone else find these sites disappointing for getting people ?

Could you not contact the companies directly? They probably don't want to pay to be on the site anymore if they can get work elsewhere0

Yes, I suppose that would be the an option however , they have an incentive to do a good job if you go through these sites. If you go direct they have nobody to answer to.0

Many do not want to be associated with them, lots of "traveller tradesmen" are renowned for hobbing such sites now.
Anyone any good has a reputation and enough regular work without shelling out on websites full of fake reviews. .I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Problem you've got is that the government want a million houses built in the next five years - I'm sure you've noticed the amount of houses going up everywhere - what comes with this is all trades are busy. 3 years ago I used (and still on) my builder quite a lot, however I haven't responded to a posting for over twelve months now because we're so busy. As suggested before try calling direct, if your worried about who your getting go to the "trusted trade website" of your choice - choose a tradesman with good feedback then Google his/her company and call them direct. I get up to 10 calls a day asking me for quotes and most are prepared to wait for a slot. Failing that I give them a couple of numbers of good guys I know in the trade0

Well I give up with these sites. Still no response. Perhaps local people are lazy and don't want to work, even for money ;-)0

What is it you need doing?0

I do not know where you are located, but the rule of thumb is to avoid the sites you are searching. I have employed a couple of men this week, the week before, ditto, ditto.. Here I seek local recommendations, follow up feed back, look in the local church magazines, parish magazine, small ads in the local shops, monthly local advertising booklets put through the letter box. Never have I used your route to find trades.
My trades are not faultless, but there is a huge advantage with this route - nobody sh-ts on their own doorstep. All want to remain in work, and gain more local word of mouth recommendations. I have found politeness and a willingness to please...whilst I guide and oversee them on how to do the work!
Equally, and this is sometimes forgotten, I treat all of them with equal respect and acceptance of their abilities. Getting work done satisfactorily requires an input from the end user, or consumer. A disinterested, laid back, aggressive, ignorant or arrogant approach does not smooth the forward path. Yet countless consumers fall at these hurdles!0
