yes I’d say all high not just ones you’ve bolded, (not sure about skip depends on size you location). They've not specified, lengths, brands quantities whats skrews? , length of skirting etc???? £250 for k2 :rotfl:I'd find someone else...Fine making a profit supplying goods but they should be open e.g. all goods supplied at 25 % above cost etc if they lie about material cost they’ll lie about what they do too, we can all makes mistakes but I'd say outright conman....

thought obvious but I guess not..the prices for materials seem far too excessive but I wanted to confirm before I confront the builder

What is the scope of the work being done?

The only thing that really stands out is the radiator.

However I would he questioning his quantaties. He's charging you for 5l of undercoat and gloss. If he is just painting the skirting, he will use about 10% of that. He should be charging you for a litre of each. And why is he charging yoy for a bix of screws (thats 200 screws). Brown wall p,ugs come in packs of 100. So how many will he use? The consumables he should be holding as stock and making a nominal charge, not for whole boxes.

Scope of work was a downstairs through lounge and a small bedroom ... size of the through lounge can be seen below..its a similar property. I definitely think he has taken the mick with the level of costs...when I challenged him on it his argument was that I had agreed to it up front so I should not be challenging it whereas I saw the pricing as estimates when provided initially and was expecting the material costs to be revisited after the works so I am only charged for what has been used. Unfortunately, nothing is in writing ... aaahhh!

Don’t agree you charge for what’s used why do people think tradesman will always be able to use whats not needed or want it to lug it back to the van out and store it all the time ? Most charge for the quantity purchased,

Plasterers don’t charge materials by what’s used normally by bag etc If clients cant be arsed to verify, look up prices or supply there own materials and proper agreement prior what makes them think they have the right to argue the toss after? You do also get the odd one that will argue the toss over the price they’ve seen something online but there oblivious that doesn’t mean tradesman paid that for it ,,, You pay for convenience, accounts. service etc and for being lazy or ignorant ?

The last tradesmen we used bought materials at discount cost and we paid them cost price. They had the receipts for it all. They just charged labour on top.

But he clearly isn't going to use 5L of gloss or undercoat. He should be charging for litre tins, not the largest quantity he can find.

  • It's simple
Ask for copy of purchase receipts.
I always charge cost, I even pass my discounts onto my customers and give them copy purchase invoices. However if I am say skimming and I break into a new bag - even if it's just a handful out of the bag I will always charge for the full bag as I don't always know if I can use the rest of that bag the next day, and once opened the damp can start getting too it rendering it useless.

Can not help but wonder if the tradesman was hired on the bases of a day rate at £110 or less

Normally on here I read about people who have been given an estimate and considered it a price. However, in this instance it would appear the OP was given a price and is wanting to have his cake and eat it.
