Acer laptop has issues

Options
Hi,
I am posting on behalf of my sister. She lives in a different country and she's not very tech-minded so I have been trying to help her with her laptop via TeamViewer etc.
The laptop is an Acer Ex2510-36s4NX.EEXET.020.

It keeps freezing and the cursor goes crazy; windows open and close by themselves. You can't click on anything after a while because it just doesn't register clicks.
Checked ram and cpu usage and all appears normal there. I did notice sometimes disk usage was showing as 100%. I thought the HDD might be on its way out but she wouldn't know how to replace it, so I thought to give restoring the laptop to factory state a go. She performed it but it doesn't seem to have helped at all.
I was thinking maybe the laptop needs formatting completely but since she wouldn't be able to reinstall drivers etc by herself, where can I find an image of Windows 8 suitable for her model? Thanks in advance.

did you really do a full factory restore, or a system restore, which disk/partition was/is full. is the battery in a good state
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand
  • Did both. Battery is in good state. Laptop is not used a lot. Disk usage as in in the task manager the disk seems to be used to 100%. The HDD has plenty of free space

    chkdsk will check the drive

remove battery to see if it makes any difference, try safemode

can't see a windows disc helping if it's been factory restored

dodgy keyboard, dodgy software, overheating are possibilities

  • chkdsk didn't find any errors. Will give safemode a try, thanks

seen similar. It was a faulty mouse, also seen similar with a touchpad.

The other wierd one was a faulty keyboard and in a button was held down. A drop of 20 cm often fix it.

What you want ia a Mint boot CD which runs in ram, and surf. If it works ok, but although not foolproof, i would then think it is more of a software thing.

Installed any new software, or drivers recently?
  • I would run a Linux distro if I could, but I don't have physical access to the laptop. I can only get into the laptop via teamviewer and when I tried to do that, I could not do much as the laptop became unresponsive a few mins after. Some clicks would register, other wouldn't.
My sister doesn't have the necessary knowledge nor patience to do these things unfortunately. She would just go and buy another one rather than send it for a repair. No one else there that could help her.
