New house move

HI to all
I moved into my brandnew house on 31st july
the gas and electric is thru British gas,
so i called them to set up an account etc gave all the meter readings set up a Dd for £30 for Electric and £50 gas

all was good, got my amazon voucher for signing up,

the start of september i had the DD come out for the electric but nothing for the gas,

so left it, and then last week, look online at my account and guessed they hadnt added the Gas account, and a call to them confirmed this when they said Persimmon were still on there account!! how does that happen,

anyway, she put me thru to a call waiting abyss, and since have had endless wait to get thru to the right team to put it right!

can i switch to another providder even thou techmincally im not registered at my own home for the gas ?, as im just sick of BG,,,

My advice would be to wait until this matter is resolved. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that your gas is supplied via an independent gas transporter (IGT). IGT gas switches can take a lot longer as many of the procedures are carried out manually. The supplier will not add the gas account to your online account until the switch has gone through. If BG cannot give you a date for the switch, then COMPLAIN to them in writing. When the switch does go through you may find that the opening reading has been estimated because of the delay. The thing to check is that the reading is not less than the one you gave to BG.

You cannot switch supplier unless you have a supplier.

At present, you do not appear to have an account set up with British Gas for your gas supply. I'm not sure what the hold up is, as they usually do so during the initial telephone call.
Of course, mistakes can happen, but is is even more strange that BG did not set up your gas account when you contacted them again to advise them of the error.

I suggest you give them one more chance, and if you get no satisfaction in that phone call, follow their complaint procedure putting your complaint in writing.

Eventually, you will be set up with a gas account effective from the date of completion of the house purchase. If it goes to a formal complaint, then push for a small ex-gratia payment (e.g. £50) for the suppliers ongoing mistakes in this matter.

As you already have an electricity account set up, you can certainly switch that now if you want :)

Edit: You might want to have a word with Persimmon too. I'm surprised they are still paying the gas bill for you. Perhaps if they were to get their act together and close their account for your home with BG, then BG might be a bit smarter about getting a new account holder registered quicker.

    Hi thanks for the reply
Yeah it's all a bit strange but like you say maybe half the problem is persimmon not closing the account
I'm off in the day next week so will give them a week to sort their stuff!! Out and then start the complaints etc
Thanks for the replies guys :)
