Once you get the MFW bug, it really makes you wish you had done it years ago!

No kidding - I plugged in our planned OP for 2016 into our original loan amount and we'd have 25k less on our mortgage if we'd been doing it from the start! (We did OP from the start, but not nearly so aggressively.) On the other hand, we wouldn't have been able to redecorate/renovate the house, so I'm glad we got that done first so that we can enjoy the house while pushing to pay it off.

Thank you so much. Love reading all the posts on this forum. They make me laugh and have completely changed my attitude to spending. Am now impatiently waiting for the end of the month so that I can discover what my new monthly income will be from the fixed term contract. Wasn't paid at all last month as the paperwork wasn't completed in time  so a lot of jiggling to do to put things straight.

Just been feeling pleased with myself for getting on top of money/spreadsheets/OPs etc., when I realised I had paid way over the odds for some replacement light bulbs I bought yesterday. They were purchased from a local DIY store, and just by chance searching on Amazon I found the same product for 1/3 of the price  Lesson to self - always check before you buy. On a positive note, we can now see again in our lounge :rotfl: Very annoying but lesson learnt!!

So after much chasing and many frustrating phone calls with my building society, I finally received my letter setting out current outstanding balance etc. I was then advised, that although they don't have an on-line facility themselves, I could apply for internet banking with a well known bank and access my mortgage account balance that way. This was very exciting as there is something really satisfying about seeing that balance drop, and I have read lots of posts about MFWs paying off small amounts and large amounts almost on a daily basis and thought that sounds great. So after battling my way through the online registration system, I discovered that I had yet again been given incorrect information, and that that particular facility had been withdrawn one year ago  I am left with having to send a cheque or make a card payment over the phone, and then wait for the building society to send me a letter (haha) confirming the new balance :( How disappointing, was all geared up for checking my balance at least 100 times a day (well that's how often I check the mortgage OP calculator :rotfl:) Never mind, just have to wait until my DH has one full year of self-employed accounts and then we can switch !!

I have managed to secure a fixed term contract for 12 months :j

    :T well done :) that's good news :)

Just a wee thing that might work for your advantage - considering how long you have been contracting for same company and now being fixed term - your employment rights may be elevated from "standard"... Can't quite remember the details but after you have been working as a contractor for same company (pending an hours a year or something) you pretty much are considered as a full time employee..... I'll see if I can find further on this and post as and when I discover the clauses I find... :)
