£100 at a main dealer is less than an hour's labour. To run proper, full tests, requires time and equipment. Posts #3 and 4 give you good suggestions as to other possible, less expensive, sources of the equipment.

But, having said that, you've already had full diagnostic tests done and the pump is being flagged as faulty. Programming a new pump to the car requires equipment the garage don't have. If further diagnostics agree with that, then what?

For a start what's the fault code that the garage came up with?

If it's 00301 - ABS pump flow return pump V39, then the cause is very likely to be nothing more than a fuse.

If you don't feel comfortable checking the fuses on top of the battery, get your original trusted local garage to do it, it'll only take them 10 minutes.

You could join a forum where there are users of VCDS, which is a VW diagnostics system who have members local to you that are willing to scan your ABS system for any codes for not a lot of money.

One such forum is http://www.briskoda.net/forums/ , the Polo is identical to the Fabia in it's mechanical/electrical systems.

Get the fault codes and we can make better informed advice on how to and what costs will be involved in getting your car fixed.

If the fault turns-out to be a faulty ABS pump rather than a dodgy fuse, you can get the whole pump fixed for around £200. There is a firm in Colchester who specialise in this.

HI, OK, and thank you for your post (and everyone helping me and my mum here) after reading your post, I just telephoned the garage that did the test and explained reading them out some of your post, and they asked the lad who did test who said he couldn't remember the code etc, but they have advised me to take it back in and get it re-tested so they can give me the diagnostic code! :T
I really like this garage because the first test they did they didn't charge my mum anything, and in the past they have been very fair:

OK just so that this time I can get as much information I need to find the right kind of repair. Could you please tell me what you would ask from them if you were me?

I understand I need a definite diagnostic code. Is there anything else I need to know and/or ask for?

I would get the fault code number and the text which the code reader may give with the code. I would then look it up here:

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes

and see as to what possible repair scenarios that it leads to.
