New Sky HD remote

Hello all,

I need to replace my Sky remote and while I am not against paying £20 for one I'd rather not...

I came across this site here which sells them for half the price.

Any idea on whether they are legit and official? The website is pretty basic.

What do you mean by 'official'? It's a firm selling nothing but Sky remotes at £9.99 and accepts Paypal. It's not Sky themselves.

    P&P is £2 so you'e risking less than £12.

But you can get them for less than £4 on Ebay.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You can buy replacement Sky remotes from Home bargains and the poundshop, usually between £3 - £5. They are not the official brand, but they work just as effectively.

  • Are you in a Sky contract ?

If not just cancel Sky and give them 30 days notice. I reckon they will send you a new remote without any probs.

I got a new Sky HD box a few weeks ago so they will help you as much as they can cos they don't want to lose your custom and your money.

...so you kept your discount and weren't recontracted ? I had a flier thru about 8-10 weeks ago offering a new HD+ box in place of my old standard Sky+ box - but when I phoned to enquire the agent suggested that my discounts would end ! so not unexpectedly I said no thanks !!!:)

The way I got a new box is :

    1. I had a problem with my Sky dish. I won't bore you with details as it is not relevant.

    2. I phoned up Sky and they wanted £50 to send an engineer out. I declined the offer but phoned back later, spoke to a different agent and advised that I wanted to give 30 days notice to cancel my 50% tv deal as I was not willing to pay £50 for an engineer visit. Agent eventually agreed to send an engineer for free.

    3. Before engineer turned up, I decided that I wanted new Sky box as my old one was over 3 years old. No probs with it, I just wanted a new box.

    4. Engineer turned up. I explained problem with my dish, which he fixed, and I said I had a problem with my box where it would occasionally flicker during playing recordings. He didn't bother checking the box. He just gave me a new one and set it up for me. Explained to me that On Demand was built into the new box. For info, I had a separate box for On Demand, which thankfully I had not paid anything for from Sky as I got it free. I am now giving it to someone else as I do not need it anymore.

Just be creative when explaining your problem to Sky with regards your box. For info, I have never paid for Sky Protect as I think it is a waste of money.

    HTHs.

ok ....so you actually got the new box from the engineer -- he presumably will book it as "previous box u/s" - not quite the same as my situation - I'll include the supply of a new box in my negotiations on Monday when I phone to cancel:)
  • For clarity I mean official as in original. There are a lot out there, like the eBay link, where they are Sky branded but don;'t work as well. I'm using one currently - the sensor light has never worked, the range is a bit hit and miss but its been OK for the last couple of years. Now I need to program a new TV to it and it isn't setting all the controls. As the light doesn't blink I don't know if its being programmed correctly or at all. On an original remote I haven't had these issues.

Morrisons stock the genuine Sky (silver ) remotes, but I don't know what they charge.
