Beware British Airways draconian 1 bag policy

British Airways ( international flights ) have recently implemented a draconian interpretation of the "one piece of hand luggage, per person, to be taken onboard".
They now prevent you from taking one piece of hand luggage and
a laptopbag or
even a handbag.
Obviously if the other item fits inside your hand luggage you can take it on.
Notes
This measure ONLY affects British Airways passengers.
Once through customs they ignore this rule so you can be parted with your money in the duty free shops.
BA departures from the UK have one of the lowest baggage allowences on international flights - just 27 KG per person. Compare this to the allowences allowed by Airfrance, Emirates, Air Mauritius and Cosair when travelling from France or Italy.
Dont get caught out, ensure you have one bag only. or fly with a more customer focused airline .

It's nothing to do with BA. It's stipulated by the Govt and has been in force for 12 months now and applies to every airline from a UK airport.0

Agreed-it's a BAA ruling not a BA ruling and applies to all carriers out of the UK.
(There is however some discussion currently going on about relaxing the regulation)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Another case of someone not reading the terms and conditions?!!Gone ... or have I?0

I wouldn't have said interpreting "one piece of hand luggage" as meaning you can only have one piece of hand luggage as draconian. I'd use a different word, probably "accurate" or "correct"0

Agree with above this is absolutely nothing to do with BA.
I travel every week for work (different airlines but not BA) and it is at security that I have to put my handbag inside by laptop bag and after it I take it out :-)0 -

What airline do you suggest I fly with? As it's not a restriction imposed by the airline then I'd like to know which ones have managed to bend the rules

What airline do you suggest I fly with?
None of them - it's standard Government policy imposed by the Department of TransportAs it's not a restriction imposed by the airline then I'd like to know which ones have managed to bend the rules
So would I - I'd like to avoid any airline that was stupid enough to blatently flout Government security rules. Inconvenient it may be, but just how much "stuff" do you need in the cabin?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

How could an airline flout the rules - the security check isn't done by the airline0

Some airlines check at check-in (BA do - you have to drop your hand luggage into a container to show that it's within the permitted dimensions).
A check is often them done by airport security (BAA in many, but not all cases).
And then a check is done before you board - by the airline ground-crew.
I agree - it's not restricted to airline staff, but airline staff do - in my experience - check before you board. And often at check-in too.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
