Please help lloyds bank platinum cover cannot cancel

I have a platinum cover on my joint account which I am desperate to cancel but can't!!!! I pay about £17 per month and it offers car breakdown cover, mobile phone insurance, travel insurance etc. I need to cancel this because I just do not use it and the bank tell me that unless I and my partner make an appointment to watch a half hour video, then I cannot cancel it. The problem with this is my partner works away, he's a wagon driver and is never at home when the bank are open, so basically, I have to keep paying until he and myself can go in together, which is just not going to happen! I'm totally at my whits end, I've been to the bank in numerous occasions with no joy, I've tried to cancel in me direct debit section, but it's not showing in that because it's a bank charge. Surely there is something I can do and reclaim all the money I've been paying since I've wanted to cancel. Can anybody give me some advice on this?

can it be downgraded over the phone or internet? can you not close it down with just your instruction if its a joint account, nothing to stop you taking the funds and closing it down, you only need one to sign, as you both have authority,
it would be different if it was a 2 to sign passbook, those these two people present to make any changes or withdrawals....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Set up another joint account at another bank, preferably outside the Lloyds Banking Group, and preferably once which pays a switching bonus, e.g. Coop. Then switch the Lloyds account to it.0

If you want to change your joint Platinum account to a different type of account it then has to be done in branch with both of you present.
There is not a half an hour video to watch but the appointment is likely to take longer than 30 minutes.
As others have already advised, the other option is to close the account.reclaim all the money I've been paying since I've wanted to cancel
If you wanted them to consider this you could make a complaint.0 -

Write a letter to the bank marked COMPLAINT - both of you need to sign it - write what efforts you have made to downgrade - I guarantee they will do it and refund all fees since you first went in to branch.
The letter needs to be sent to the complaints department not the branch - see the website for address (or back of one of your staements).0 -
I think it is time to move your accounts, I have a Nationwide Flex account service is good and no charges.0

The only problem is to open a joint account BOTH need to be together at the Nationwide or any other bank of their choice - this is the problem all round - perhaps they would be better off with sole accounts.0 -

An increasing number of banks/building societies now allow for joint account applications online. This includes Nationwide and Lloyds.
You might still have to appear in Branch if the ID of either or both applicants can not be verified online.0
