Why was my tax credit claim rejected

I am hoping someone on here can help me out as I have been trying to speak to tax credit helpline several times but waiting times are ridiculous and have given up. I submitted a new claim as my husband changed job in July and is on a much lower wage now and given our reduced income, we should be entitled to child tax credits as we have two kids. They have refused our claim on the basis that our income up until the end of tax year 2015 was too high however, I did give them proof that he was no longer in that employment and provided evidence of our reduced income. I am surmising that we will not be able to claim until the end of the next tax year in 2016 as they base the claim on your income for the previous tax year. Can anyone clarify please?

this years income will also include 3+ months at the higher salary and the remainder at the lower salary
so, if previously his income was £24k and now £18k
the income for the year (using 3 months+9months) would be £19.5k so when you provide them the estimate for the year you will include the full income estimated for the year...as said they will add £2.5k to that number and they should adjust the award which may trigger payments0 -
These replies are really helpful thanks. So the reply did state nil due. They never asked for an estimates of earnings for 2015/16 even though I sent a letter with the original claim form stating what he would be earning from July. How do you provide an estimate - write to them or is there another form to be completed?0
