Upgraded to windows 10 - no wireless internet!

My friend upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10.
(Dell 17R laptop)

Upgrade went well, everything working, then as the system updated windows 10 over the next couple of days the wireless internet connection became slower and slower till eventually it stopped completely.

Having looked on the internet this seems to be a common problem with internet connection needed to download the windows troubleshooter to solve this problem.

At present they have restored windows 8.1 and have wireless internet.
What can they do to solve the windows 10 problem so they can re-install it?
