PPI refund going to dormant bank account

Options
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone could advise me on this please -I've recieved a letter from HSBC advising of a successful ppi claim, however they are crediting the money to a HSBC account that I haven't used for over 10yrs that had an outstanding overdraft. Surely the overdraft should be statute barred & account closed as its a dormant account? Are they able to do this?

If they haven't already credited it, ask them for the cheque.

However, if you have defaulted on any payments, or owe them money, they are entitled to use any redress against it.
A statute barred debt doesn't mean you no longer owe them money, it just means they won't or can't pursue you through the courts for it.

  • Thank you for your reply. I have asked them to refund to my new account but no response yet (a week later), didn't realise that an overdrawn account would still be open after 10 plus years. Other thing is that I went through "we fight any claim" so chances are that I'll be out of pocket now :(
