Advice on new Electric Eco7 heating set up - oil vs storage heaters

I have just bought a new terraced 1 bedroom house with Eco 7 and I have taken out the original heating to replace with new. I would like to hear some opinions and advice of the best heating set up I could invest in

THE HOUSE:
Its no more than 700sqf in total across 3 floors. It has been well insulated, has double glazing, and only windows on the front of the house as the back has a railway. 1980s construction, breeze block. 1st floor is a garage (to be converted to bedroom) 2nd floor living/kitchen and 3rd floor bedroom & bathroom. Basically I don't think I will need to use much energy to sustain decent temperatures.
BUGET & NEEDS:
I have a very small budget and have ruled out heat pump and panel heaters (high running cost).
I need a new cylinder and slim heaters (as rooms are tiny)
I want good control, but not sure if that should be from a wireless thermostat or on-heater thermostat.

I like the sound of Dimplex Quantum as the controls seem quite advanced and there is a good boost function. But its quite expensive and I wondered if there was an OEM or cheaper brand with similar spec. Also, I have recently read about oil wall mounted and I like the idea of no fan noise.

Can anyone help with the decision of storage heaters vs oil, and a recommendation for further reading, or research direction. If someone can suggest a setup with model/manufacturer suggestion, thats very welcome!

Thanks in advance for anyone that contributes to this thread! :)

There is no question that at current low prices for oil, it is much cheaper than any form of electric heating - including Economy 7.

Oil is around 35p a litre which equates to 3.5p per kWh. Taking into account boiler efficiency say 4p/kWh.

Even the cheapest economy 7 tariff is around 6p/kWh for 7 hours off-peak and then you pay more for the other 17 hours.
  • Oil water, Marmite or magic chamotte clay filled, a kW is a kW - all electric is the same cost, the storage heaters and the hot water you ripped out was at about a third of the cost of anything day rate electric.

Assuming you meant oil filled electric :

In a well insulated dwelling, and the usual working week a panel heater system can be a cheap option. Whereas in a retired situation it would be a poor option. No electric option in my opinion is as good as the Quantum, but as you say is very expensive. As a starting point I wanted to point out that a kW in is a kW out regardless of oven, panel, night store, light bulbs or oil filled. Welcome to the forum Anna_11.

I had assumed 'oil heating' meant an oil CH boiler. On reflection you are probably correct - as is the rest of your post.
