Knots in wood

I wonder if I can ask for your help?
I am trying to paint the woodwork on my landing and there are knot marks in the gloss paint showing through.
Without having to strip back to the bare wood, would Zinsser BIN work? I am covering the sanded gloss with a white satinwood.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

As long as you sand it own with a fine grit to provide a key it will work well but I have absolutely no faith in claims that you do not need to key the surface first especially if the woodwork is likely to be subjected to some abuse as it gets banged etc.0

I painted over the knots in a glossed pine door with BIN and then reglossed it, two years later still no knot bleed through. You'd probably get a better finish sanding, but I'm lazy. Only bought a tiny tin and only painted the knots, still got lots left after two doors...0

BIN will do the job. It's designed for stuff like this. No sanding required.0

Personally, I would sand it down to the knot and use some knot sealer on it, this will stop the sap from coming out. Then prime it, undercoat and go back to glossing.
I've tried and tested most of the other solutions and then knot always bleeds through unless you seal it on bare wood.Cashback

i use knotting too.seals the knot completely, never had any probs with bleed through/discolourationEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -
I used 2 coats of Knotting solution then primer, undercoat and gloss and still got bleeding through. I used zinsser bin on knots and re-glossed, 2 years on and still no more knots showing.0
