17-months after purchase the screen on my Dell Inspiron Notebook 3537 has gone kaput. Its going to cost £80-125 to get it fixed. It looks like a squashed trifle behind the screen!
Gutted, but now thinking of a replacement up to £450.
Mostly use laptop for browsing, watching films, tv shows and youtube.
Any recommendations from a "reliably" brand to beat my current spec which is below?
Memory
4GB 1 DIMM (1X4GB) DDR3L 1600Mhz
Inspiron 15
Inspiron Notebook 3537 Base, Windows 8.1
Processor
4th Generation Intel® Core™ i3-4010U processor (3M Cache 1.7 GHz)
LCD
39.6cm (15.6") LED Backlit Display with Truelife and HD resolution (1366 x 768)

why spend 450 when you could spend 80, or less if you diy

This is the same as what response was going to be! Its a no brainerAll views are solely my own and do not represent anybody else nor any companies. I bought this couple weeks ago
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370977576736?clk_rvr_id=900259094415&rmvSB=true
Its a refurb but does the job perfectly (like you used for youtube, facebook, netflix, basic browsing,) and has warranty - maybe have a look at their shop page and see if anything to suit you .0 -
My Dell screen went, local repair shops wanted £90 to fix, a new screen on Ebay was £50, I ended up buying a used screen from Ebay for £19 delivered !
There was instructions on youtube how to replace, which took 10/15 mins.
Job done - £19 or £4500 -
Get a replacement screen off ebay and google for the service manual - Dell service manuals are really clear and easy to follow.0

I've just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop with 8Gb RAM and a 1Tb hard disc for £229 from Argos on eBay. It's brand new and does everything I need.

Two videos slightly different approach - one looks more thorough but complex for a newbie.

Generally speaking :-
Locate the screws around the plastic bezel (usually under rubber plugs)
Prize off the rubber plugs with something flat and keep them same
Remove the screws
Carefully remove the bezel - take your time
Locate the screws around the screen and remove them.
Unplug any connectors.
Remove screen
Fitting is the reverse process0 -

The OP can fix their laptop screen, add a 500GB SSD, add another 4GB for RAM and put the old HDD in a case for back up use for less than that.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
