BEKO Ceramic hob issue

Recently my induction hob developed a hairline crack along the entire hob. Totally inexplicable; had I dropped something on it, it would have been understandable but it appeared from nowhere.
It is 15 months old; they offer a 1 year warranty but I contacted them, as it's reasonable to expect a ceramic hob to last longer, under normal use.
They asked me to send a photo, to which they replied that it is likely to be a 'stress crack rather than a manufacturing fault', and therefore not covered under warranty. Not sure how they can tell its a stress crack and from what 'stress' they did not elaborate. (It has only ever been used as a cooker). They advised that they would send an engineer out to see if it is a stress crack.
I would appreciate your thoughts on this and if they refuse, what the next step might be. I am adamant that this was not caused by me and that it is not a stress crack, as the yput it.
Cheers

Who are they - retailer or manufacturer?0
-
Manufacturers; Currys were the retailer0

Your consumer rights are with the retailer so I'd suggest wait and find out what the engineer states and if it does turn out to be a manufacturing fault and they don't offer a remedy exercise your rights with Currys.
What sort of worktop has it been fitted into?0 -
Hi
Just a standard wooden worktop. I cant see their own engineer ruling in my favour though, as after 6 months the onus is on me to show that it is a manufacturing fault.0 -

You're probably right, so pay for an independent report: if it confirms an inherent fault then Curry's will have to pay for the report as well as the repair/replacement/refund for the hob.0 -

The reason i ask, and this can apply to the former, greater care needs to be taken when fitting a ceramic hob into a wooden worktop as there needs to be enough space to allow for expansion. If this hasn't been done then that could a reason for stress fractures/cracks and therefore you're fitter would be liable.0 -
Have you spoken to Currys yet? They're unlikely to be helpful, but if you do want to pursue it further you'd have to deal with Currys anyway.0

Hi all, thanks for the replies. Beko sent an engineer to inspect it and he concluded that it wasn't anything we had done and said that he would order the glass there and then, which he did. He was satisfied that there must have been a fault in the glass. It was supposed to be fixed tommorrow but beko cancelled the appointment as they wanted a full report from the engineer. So I am still wating for an outcome. All this for a piece of glass.0
