Depends on what they/you want to know. If you like being near the sea, then the naze is quieter than being near the pier. Although its a long way from the town, so would need transport to get to the shops (unless you dont mind a brisk 30min walk). Walton is in the back end of nowhere, out on a limb. So if you want clothes shops and restaurants, you need to go to clacton or colchester (half hr drive). Out of season walton is a ghost town and its fairly run down, with quite a few empty shops, even in the summer.
On the plus side, housing is cheap and locals are friendly.0 -
It's like stepping back 50 years

Thanks for you replies
Is crime both personal and property a big issue?0 -
We live nearby and hubby proposed to me on the Naze.
Housing is cheap... Unless you're talking up on the Naze itself where it's not, but the views are stunning.
As others have said, it is out on a limb - twiddly drive to Clacton or Colchester (Colchester being the larger town).
Lovely beach and the Naze is great for walking (very popular with dog walkers). Like many other UK seaside small towns it is run down and pretty quiet. My mum retired to the coast a couple of years back and opted for Clacton over Walton or Frinton, despite Clacton's reputation. She loves it - there's absolutely loads going on, clubs to join, etc etc. Less going on in Walton, but depends what your friend wants. I'd say Walton is better for peace and quiet, nature walks, etc.0 -
Walton itself is OK, near to Frinton. It is always my choice over Southend/Clacton if I want to go for a nice walk to the beach. It isn't miles from Clacton which isn't great.
I wouldn't want to live there because it is just too remote. I grew up out in the sticks but Walton is a new level of that even for me0 -
We own a cottage there and visit regularly. There are some problems with groups of teens and have had our beach hut broken into a few times. In the winter it's very quiet and in the summer is very busy. Lots of tat shops. A co op and a Tesco express. For a long time there was no cash points but both shops have them now.
Lovely walks up the naze and some nice parks.
It's very close to Clacton which has a decent town, pubs etc.
I would be more than happy to live there if my circumstances changed. I guess it depends what you like in an area.
There's a Facebook group I'm in where people who live there discuss the local area. Mainly complaints about dog mess but might be worth joining to get a feel of what the locals say.0 -
Thanks for the replies very useful, one last question (well I think it's the last)
Is the Naze area falling into the sea? How long has it got?0 -
Yes there is coastal erosion, but the houses r set way back from the edge and r nowhere near the unprotected parts of cliff. Most houses are a good 500m behind the sea wall and nowhere near where there has been any landslip0
