Problem with laptop Dell Inspiron 1501

Options
Hello,

I have a problem with my new(ish) laptop Dell Inspiron 1501 (processor AMD Turion 64x2, OS Vista Home Premium).

Everytime i turn the machine on, it turns itself off after 5 to 10 minutes.:confused::confused: This happens irregardless of whether the computer is running on battery or on electric power, and on whether I have started Windows Vista or I am running the diagnostic tools provided by Dell.

Its not a cooling problem, as i have waited for the laptop to cool completely before restarting it.

My antivirus is updated and I run virus scans very often, so I suppose it's not a virus.

I do not know if this is important, but since I had this problem, every time I turn on the computer, the small light indicating the status of the battery near to the keyboard does not turn itself on.

I never had any hardware problem before with this laptop (only some annoyance due to Vista).

Does anybody has any idea as to what the problem might be and what I can do to fix it? I need my laptop to work and it would be great to solve the problem without waiting for the assistance from Dell.

Any help and suggestion from you techies would be greatly appreciated.icon7.gif

Does it do this whilst you are typing away, or when it is left unused for 10 mins
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • my OP was written on my old toshiba laptop...

the dell shuts itself down after a couple of minutes, irregardless of what i am doing/which application i am running on it. :(

i tried to do a diagnostic scan at boot time witht he toold provided by Dell, but it shut itself down mid-scan...??

    help......*tears hair out*
  • Thanks so much for the help,
    The problem is now solved:j

Fortunately the computer is still under warranty. A technician came yesterday and changed motherboard, fan, and another piece whose name I don't remember (should connect the fan to the motherboard or something like that...). The computer works fine now.:j:j

Sorry for the stupidity:o, but what's the sale of goods act as amended?
