Floorplan software

Can anyone recommend (free) software which I could use to create a new floorplan? There are a few programs around but I'm not sure which, if any, are decent.

We are looking to remove an internal wall and enlarge a small toilet into a utility room as well as totally redesign our kitchen.

Ideally I would like software where I can input actual measurements because I'm not sure if the changes I want to make are actually feasible in terms of space.

Obviously this cannot replace a professional plan, but at least it will get the ball rolling.

Cheapest option is to scale things yourself on paper.

Can't help with software as I use CAD software at work to 3D model my house. :)
  • Use Google Sketchup

It's good for floorplans and actual full 3d models.

Best of all, it's free!!

Thanks - I'll have a look at Sketchup. I didn't realise google had their own version (although I should have known!)

Another vote for sketchup - can be daunting at first but there are plenty of tutorials on youtube to get you started.

Agree have a few goes, and learn from Youtube. after a few hours on it I ended up building my house fully, with all internal walls.

Google some images, they can look very professional.
  • For a basic floor plan 'floor planner' on Ipad (maybe other tablets too?) is good and very simple to use. I used it just to get an idea of what size sofas would work in a space and it did the trick. I 'drew' out the whole flat and 'furnished it' in the end.
  • There's also a free programme from autodesk which I think is easier to use than sketchup for a floorplan.
