Evans cycles

We have always been a supporter of Evans cycles and never found a reason to knock them. However my partner was out cycling yesterday and the gear cable snapped. He was near one of the Evans stores and went in and spoke to one of the mechanics. Without asking the mechanic started to give a full run down on the faults on the bike and came up with some out of the world figure of £210 to get everything put right.
My partner explained can you just replace the cable. Oh no not worth doing and suggested to him to buy a new bike.
However my partner contacted Halfords and they suggested he bring the bike in. He took it in at 9.30am today and they cleaned the chain, replaced the cable and gears were all adjusted. The cost £10.
The only thing they said the chain was getting worn and freewheel could do with being replaced.
So Evans very disappointed with you and we will not be returning when we need a new bike.

It's as likely you got a pushy "mechanic" as it being Evans' company policy. You could just as easily have encountered the same thing at Halfords or another cycle shop.
(I have nothing to do with Evans. In fact I've never even purchased anything from them. I'm just offering an opinion that this could be an isolated incident).0
