is there any way to open an INDIVIDUAL file with a message
"this is a Prohibited File Type"?
I know how to disable the blocking function
for ALL files but do not wish to do this
I know the file is safe as it is a word document that I had on my old laptop
Thanks Pam

Operating system?
Actual file name? (Or at least the extension)0 -
Don't really know what you mean by the extension. It is a word letter docx if that helps?
sorry I can't find anything else that you may mean0 -

Extension means the bit after the dot. So you've confirmed it is a .docx (Word 2007 and later) file.
If the file is in an email, save it (e.g. to your desktop) and then open it with MS Word or other word processing software.0 -
I don't really understand why you would wish to prohibit the opening of all .docx files apart from this one?0

I don't want to prohibit the opening of all docs. It is just this one.
The error message is in pink and it says
"Prohibited file type. This message contains an attachment whose file type is considered dangerous. The file has been deactivated".
I know that the file isn't dangerous as it is a letter that was in my word documents on my old laptop.
I just wanted to know if there was any way that I could open it.0 -

Google your error (you should have done this before asking here)
"Prohibited file type. This message contains an attachment whose file type is considered dangerous. The file has been deactivated"
Follow the advise in the Microsoft community link there.0
